Spike Lee, Brooklyn Ready To Celebrate Michael Jackson Again

When we interviewed Spike Lee last month, he told us, "we will be having our 2nd annual Michael Jackson birthday Brooklyn extravaganza in Prospect Park on August 29th. It's going to be bigger and better this year. People come the world over." He was less enthusiastic when asked about the film he's working on, which shares a name with the event—Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson. He said he wasn't allowed to discuss it at the time, so for now, all you get is this video of Lee shouting names of MJ songs in Prospect Park.

The party falls on what would have been the King of Pop's 52nd birthday. If you want to celebrate his life, head over to Prospect Park’s Nethermead Field this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Lee will be one hand, and DJ Spinna will be transmitting all of the pop star's hits. You are encouraged to don your favorite MJ look, and practice up on your moonwalk—you are also encouraged to send us photos! Here's a look back at last year's event.

For anyone who wants to know the REAL Michael Jackson and find out the TRUTH I would recommend this site:

Michael Jackson was NEVER a pedophile or child molestor. The facts add up to NOTHING. There has never been any PROOF. There have always only been allegations by 2 families, 10 years apart who were both out for $$$. They saw an opportunity in their friendship with Michael Jackson because they understood that some jaded, evil-minded people in the public would look at a "grown" man hanging out with and helping children as something "wicked". The mere allegation and the entire media world turned upside down & inside out trying to portray Mr. Jackson as some kind of freak. It turned out to make them a whole lot of money too. It was a "win-win" for everyone but Michael Jackson, his dear children and the millions of people around the world who loved & respected him for all of his many contributions to this world. A more honest reappraisal would be that the crime of false accusation was committed against Michael Jackson. The man was virtually hounded to his death. And from what I can see from the largely negative responses on this post, it seems clear the true 'fanatics' as regards Michael Jackson - are his detractors.

I will be there on Sunday. My 9 year-old son & I are traveling 200 miles in order to be there and celebrate a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime human being:

    MICHAEL JACKSON.

How many tax dollars are being spent to subsidize this fiasco?

Why not have a party day for Ted Bundy? Joel Steinberg? Mark David Chapman?

Beating the dead, sparkly, spandexy, pervy horse another year in a row...

SURE, NOW THAT HIS VITILIGO RAVAGED, CHILD RAPING PENIS IS SAFELY TUCKED IN HIS GRAVE. LETS HAVE A FUCKING PARTY FOR HIM

  • ANGRYGOD11

    Yes, why not?

For people like him there is the man, the work and the phenomenon. The child rapist is dead, I still wish I could moonwalk and who can resist the opening bass line of Billie Jean?

Will it be sponsored by Absolut Brooklyn or whatever that b.s. vodka Spike pushed is called? Such a jackass. It's hard to recall that he actually once made decent movies.

Looking forward to the inevitable follow up article on Monday about how the park area was completely trashed and overrun with garbage

  • jbk

Of course it will be trashed. The Nethermead was not meant for events that have more than 10,000 attendees. The last big bbq event they had this summer had 3,000 and it took 3 days to clean it up. (nice going whoever dumped their bbq grill into Binnen Water, btw) I heard a rumor they expect 40,000 to attend the MJ event this year. I don't see why they just can't move it to the Bandshell area or to the Long Meadow. They've already fenced the Nethermead off with wooden fences and it really looks like people will be herded in there like cattle. I just hope that no one gets trampled!!!
