Cool, Rainy Start to Week

There's a headline we haven't had to use in a while. A low pressure system has brought much needed rain to the city and much too much rain to portions of Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley. A little over 2.5 inches of rain has fallen on Central Park while some spots upstate have received over five inches.

Light rain is expected through tonight as that low diddles about off the eastern end of Long Island. A second low will probably keep some light rain and drizzle around through Wednesday. The rain, thick cloud cover, and an easterly wind will keep afternoon highs in the low 70s for the first half of the week. Tomorrow might not break 70 - that has not happened since June 9th.

Don't worry summer fans, warmer, sunnier, weather will return later in the week. A cold front looks like it will clear the moisture away on Thursday, leading to several days of sun. The temperature forecast for the weekend is uncertain so we're going with highs somewhere in the 80s.

They screwed up posting the picture, I can't get to the original on flickr, there's no hyperlink. Please fix, I don't think the photographer would be happy.

Fixed. Thanks for catching that. Damned one-handed typing.
