Want To Park At The Meadowlands? Find A Scalper

As if football tickets didn't cost enough, both the Jets and the Giants are requiring that fans get pre-paid parking passes to park at the New Meadowlands stadium. So anyone looking for tickets online is going to pay a second small fortune for parking. The Daily News reports some single game parking passes are running up to $110 on Craigslist and eBay, and parking to match a 10-game season pass is up to $650. And don't think the passes are just for people looking to go to a game or two; some fans with season tickets are trudging online trying to find parking too.

One Giants fan spent $40,000 on season tickets, but had to spend $86 extra for a pair of passes for one game, which usually go for $25 each. He said, "You can't imagine how ticked off I was about this. I never thought I wasn't going to get parking. It never even occurred to me." The passes were sold earlier this year to season ticket holders for $250 for 10 games. But non-personal seat license holders received one parking pass per five seats. There are 1,600 parking spots available for the 82,500 fans the stadium can hold.

I park at Redds (Bar & Grill) across the street, and they have a shuttle that drives you right in!

  • nycnewsjunkie

    Take the TRAIN.

Robingee, Its called stubhub, Ive bought $30 tickets for a bunch of games this season.

  • robingee

Oh is that what "it's called"?

I don't care for sports, but the amount my friends spend is crazy.

  • robingee

Going to any kind of sporting event around here is ridiculous. My friend just got tix to see the Cubs for like, $25 at Wrigley Field. Wanna see the Yankees? That'll be $200 please. Insanity.

  • row

Try the Mets. You can get get $25 or under easily. Knicks decent seats (2nd from top) $35 easy.Cyclones, 8 bucks. Football is just ridiculous and the Yankees are the Yankees.

  • robingee

Yeah but don't people want to see the teams they like? If you're a Yankee fan why would you go see The Cyclones?

1st of all they definitely offer parking passes to season ticket holders as I live with one and he only bought 2 seats and was offered 2 parking passes (he only bought 1). 2nd of all there is public transportation to get there. Why does everybody need to drive? Its only like $10 to commute both ways. And that way you can drink all you want and not worry about traffic or drinking and driving. Driving is a convenience and your going to have to pay if you want to drive. The one Giant fan mentioned in this article probably turned down parking at the start and then realized after it was sold out that he wanted to drive. He made his own mistakes. If he didnt want to spend the $86 then he shouldv taken the train. It was his choice to pay that.

3rd, why are everyones comments so against going to games and think that watching at home is far superior. While I agree that there is a better view on tv, cheaper beer and cheaper food, you are still not there. Your not going to tell your grandkids I was at home watching the Giants first game in the new stadium having cheap beers. But you will tell your grandkids that I was at the Giants first ever game in this stadium. Watching something on tv isnt actually doing anything. Going to the game is. Its an experience. Many people love this experience and are willing to pay top dollar to enjoy it. I know I am. Do you guys watch all your vacations on TV too? I mean really its the same. You can just watch planet earth and drink cheap beer at home and you will definitely get a better view of all the places Planet Earth tapes. Its about the experience. Thats why it is worth the money to go.

I really dont know what this article is trying to prove. It costs alot of money to go to NY sports team games. It costs alot of money to do nice things in NYC. Its typical. Why is everybody in an uproar. Its not like you are forced to pay. If you dont like the price dont buy it.

I think the point of the article is that the Jets love ripping people off. I was a season ticket holder 20 years ago-$25 anywhere in the Meadowlands. I spent $200 for a season ticket!!! No one went to the games because the team sucked. Even then parking was a fucking nightmare. Park at the Brendan Byrne Arena parking lot then hoof it to the game. Public transportation was an absolute joke back then. Take the bus from the Port Authority and they will pick you up at the start of the fourth quarter. They would send three buses, fill them up, then none would come back while you stood in line frozen to death. Yeah great times. I was there for Dan Marino's spike-froze my fucking ass off then had to take a shitty bus home. More great times-can't wait to tell the grandkids I sat and watched this piece of shit team. Jet fans who pay that kind of money for a joke of a team deserve to be ripped off. At least the Giants have won Super Bowls and can somewhat justify ripping people off. The Jets big moves are go to the old Joe Namath jersey and win NOTHING. Yep I am staying home...

A guy can pay $40,000 for season tickets, then he can afford to pay someone to drop him off and pick him up. If he can't afford that tariff maybe he should reconsider his lot in life and watch the game at home.

Having been to Giants stadium plenty of times, I can safely say that watching on the TV is superior to almost any seat in the house. Now I have not yet been to the new stadium and this may no longer be true. But in general, I'll take my couch and a cold, non-$7 beer and stay out of those horrible swirling winds. They're fun to watch on TV, but not so fun when they blow the garbage in your face.

Although really, you just don't get those precious football experiences, like the time I was coming back with a beer and a drunk guy sitting in my row grabbed my boobs and then pulled me onto his lap as I tried to walk past him. With my husband 2 seats away. Strangely I don't really remember the rest of the game...

You should visit the new stadium - it's lovely and the food is great. We were in the Upper Sideline and the view was decent (though I had too many beers beforehand and had to squint to see anything). And there are huge screens at either end.

Two tickets to the first preseason game (via StubHub), plus a green parking pass (via eBay) was about $220. I'm not rich, but that was pretty reasonable.

Three cheers for the architect, planning commission, and any other idiot who couldn`t count parking spaces. You needed a few hundred extra just for tailgate parties.

  • lexicondevil

Well, I guess there's sucker born every minute. You can watch the game in beautiful high-def with replays from every angle for free at home or your favorite watering hole... yet some people would rather shell out several hundred dollars to go out to New Jersey. It makes no sense whatsoever.

How much do I wish people would wake up and realize sports is just like the mob.
