Police Investigating Another Staten Island Bias Attack

082110si.jpg According to NY1, police are looking into another possible bias attack that took place last night in Staten Island. The beating took place near 190 Burgher Avenue, across town from Port Richmond, where most of the bias attacks have taken place. One resident said, "I think it's outrageous, because generally this is a quiet community and none of that usually happens here, it doesn't usually happen here."

Sources say a Mexican immigrant was walking with two friends when he was attacked by a group. The attackers punched him while yelling anti-Mexican slurs. The victim was not badly injured, but no arrests have been made yet. Police stepped up their presence on the island, especially in the Port Richmond area, after numerous attacks against Mexican immigrants. The last attack was at the end of July, which left 18-year-old Christian Vasquez with a black eye. A recent Staten Island Advance interview with some Staten Island residents highlighted the racial tensions on the island, but one resident said, "I just moved to this neighborhood...it's just getting too close to home now you know and something really needs to be done about it."

You couldn't pay me enough to live on that island.

Do you think the victim had a SS# like his attackers did?

  • John L

And I guess that justifies the attack?

Do you condone violence against people without SS#s?

Do you realize that these heartless criminals would have no problem beating the shit out of you and robbing you, even if you show them your SS card?

  • exnyer

Frustration causes the bias attack does not justify it. People here w/o SS#`s commit plenty of crime, if they are caught they serve time are deported and most of them return to the land of opportunity to do it again. Many illegals have lengthy rap sheets in THIS country not their homeland. Sanctuary cities like NY are increasing the crime within their own communities by harboring illegals. I live in a sanctuary state where illegals roam free everywhere they create unnecessary burden on state services, commit crimes, bring in and distribute illegal drugs and built up a formidable GANG presence in many cities. Not the nicest people crossing our boarders illegally.

Even if any of what you said was anything more than ridiculous generalizations, it still doesn't make it ok to attack someone in the street and yell racial slurs at them.

Yeah, I love this technique of talking out of both sides of your mouth:

I'm not saying it's OK. Really. Nothing justifies such an attack. I don't want you to think I'm siding with the person who did this because I'm not. But let me explain why it happens. Basically, Mexicans are really, really bad and totally out of control.

And so are white people. So are asians. So are black people. Green people. Orange people.

Give it up; there is no frame of reference from which you can hide your bigotry behind. Learn to realize that there will good examples and bad examples in life.

  • "Bias attack" is such a much more polite way of saying hate crime!
