Man Sues NYPD For Traffic Cop's Bad Directions

A NJ man claims that a NYPD traffic cop's terrible directions caused him injuries and his car damage! The Post reports, "In papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Diogenes Tavarez, 61, says he was driving his car near the entrance of the Holland Tunnel last November 'when his vehicle was violently struck" by another car which had been 'directed to proceed' by the not so-eagle-eyed traffic cop." Tavarez, whose 2004 Honda had $15,000 in damages, says the cop was "negligent, careless and reckless" and was "directing traffic in said area with a total disregard for the health, safety and welfare of others." Not only is he suing the NYPD and the cop, he's also suing the city and the other driver for a grand total of $5 million.

Blame the Cop, nobody ever been steered wrong by a dumb ass GPS???????? turn right, turn right, starbucks, turn right, pizza hut....what about my destination?

I've been in a crosswalk before (with the right of way) when a traffic cop waved cars through. One of the SUVs almost took out a mom & stroller in front of me.

amazing how no one here blames the lawyer who took this case - and probably egged him on.

i expect joe lunchbox to be greedy and stupid. wouldn't it be great if the lawyers of the world learned something in law school about self-policing?

Hahaha good luck with that one Diogenes... I would love to see video of this happening, that's the only way to make a decision about this. Even if a video somehow showed the cop was totally responsible for this accident, nothing would happen. We all saw that cop bodyslam that biker and the biker still got nothing.

And on another note: 'Diogenes'? Is this a common name where he is from? How do you pronounce it? Deeoh jenez? Deeahjinis? Deeohh guneez? Dio geans? The genetic makeup of Ronnie James Dio?

Can I sue traffic agents for always causing more traffic than just letting the lights do their job?

The only one responsible for accidents are the drivers themselves. Even if waved on by a traffic cop or anyone else, you are still the operator of the vehicle and must take due caution. Case dismissed.
