Bedbugs "Detected" In Time Warner Center Offices

2010_08_bdbutw.jpg Uh-oh: At the same time that it was reported there were bed bugs at the Brooklyn DA's office, a memo from TBS's human resources department was sent out to staffers working out of the Time Warner Center in Manhattan about a situation there. TVNewser reprinted the memo, "The Time Warner Center Facilities Department advises that bed bugs have been detected in Time Warner Center. This determination was made after testing was conducted on several floors of the building."

A CNN spokesman also said, "The building management is addressing the issue and is taking immediate action." But the real question is whether the critters have migrated downstairs...to the shops and Whole Foods!! Maybe a bed bug beagle is needed for the building!

Previous bed bug sightings (note—not all of these are infestations) from this month and last: At the NY Public Library, Euro RSCG, Victoria's Secret, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Kings County Hospital.

Damn, it's Saturday, can anyone reach Bloomberg in Bermuda and tell him that we need some "leadership" in dealing with is Bed Bug infestation in NYC? Can someone explain to him that's it's not just a poor person's problem anymore?

Treating bedbugs has become a game of whack-a-mole in the city. And it's making lots of "bedbug experts" rich.

How is it that some poor joe newyorker can spend thousands of dollars, have to get rid of his furniture, and fight the battle for months, while John Jay college can have two treatments only and wipe out bedbugs in three large buildings. No doubt for a six figure fee.

Once again, why, if this issue is plaguing almost every large urban city, can't emergency legislation be passed for a one to three month use of DDT by licensed exterminators?
