Unruly Passenger Forces JetBlue Flight Diversion

2009_03_jetbluep.jpg A JetBlue flight from Boston headed to the Dominican Republic was diverted to Washington D.C. due to an unruly passenger: According to Fox News, JetBlue spokesman "said the Transportation Safety Administration and local law enforcement were notified and the passenger was taken into custody." (No Steven Slater-like antics—it's believed the passenger had an anxiety attack.) In the meantime, on an American Airlines flight between NY and Chicago, a pilot allegedly said, "Flight attendants take great pride in their work. Please respect the job that they do. They are here for your safety first and service second... If they need you to stay put or need your assistance, please obey their orders. When they ask you to sit down, you will sit down."

Don't forget to sit back and relax. And then sit back and relax. And after I interrupt the one terrible movie to tell you how high up we are, how fast we're moving, what the weather is like in Who Carse and that you should sit back and relax, please just sit back and relax and enjoy the flight. Actually ENJOY the flight. ENJOY IT.

That AA pilot had me until he said that shit. THAT'S the problem travelers have; air waitresses and pilots forgetting that they are in fact there to both SERVICE us AND keep us safe. Respect, responsibility and safety are a two-way street and I'm not flying your shitty, dirty airplane so you can tell me to "obey" your "orders".

I know unruly assholes are a part of their job, but I'm also sick of snotty, snarky, rude airline employees on power trips who think they can act any way they damn well please all in the same of "safety".

Isn't American also the same airline who intiated the checked baggage fee trend?

If airline travel is more than you can deal with, perhaps you should consider Greyhound.

You're part of the reason why flying is so awful these days. It's all "me, me, me." When a flight attendant tells you to sit down you should do nothing else other than STFD. You may have paid to be on the flight, but who cares? You're not in charge.
