Last Night's Action: So Close

  • Mets 1 Colorado 0: Mike Pelfrey dialed things back to June and the Mets managed to scratch out a run against one of the NL’s best. Pelfrey outdueled Ubaldo Jimenez, thanks to a sac fly from Jose Reyes. K-Rod pitched a flawless ninth to earn his 25th save as the Mets got back to winning.

  • Rangers 4 Yankees 3 (10 Innings): If the Yankees have to face the Rangers in the playoffs, chances are they won’t have Marcus Thames batting third or Austin Kearns hitting fifth. The makeshift lineup managed three runs, but it was the great Rivera who let them down. Mariano let the first two runners reach in the 10th and Texas made it count, winning the game with one out.

That Met win was torturous to watch. They cannot hit when there are men on base. Atrocious. Fire Manuel already. The Orioles are 7-1 with Buck as manager. Imagine if the Mets shitcanned this god awful chump Manuel and brought in a good manager? They might be in the thick of things. Instead, a vote of confidence, another lousy season.

the umpire won the game for the rangers when he called the high fastball a strike on gardner. that was a bullshit call.

The thing that confounds me about some Yankees fans is their whining if the team loses a games, Mariano doesn't get a save or a particular player doesn't hit a game winning home run. It's as if they have a bizarre notion that the team should by all rights go 162-0 and any deviation from that narrative is reason to worry.

You can say Mariano let us down, but he's the best reliever you'll ever see. (His Era until last night was .092) Even the Yankee haters have to agree or you don't know baseball.
