Unless you've been living in a cave filled with the finest meats and cheeses the past couple of weeks you've probably heard of the fires in Russia. A heat wave and drought have dried up the peat bogs and forests around Moscow. It hasn't been quite so hot and dry in New York but the city is still vulnerable to wildfires. We came across a small grass fire in Morningside Park yesterday afternoon. An alert homeless man living in the park had just finished putting out the blaze (with a little assist in stomping out a few remaining embers). Be careful out there!

Judging by the wind shift a weak cold front appears to have passed through the city between 7:00 and 8:00 this morning. It is going to take a while for cooler air to get here so look for another warm day with a slight chance of scattered showers in the afternoon and evening. The high will be in the upper 80s.

Rather than heading southeastward as they typically do, the high pressure system behind the front is expected to slide toward the Canadian Maritimes. The east winds from that maneuver will produce a couple of grungy days. Look for tomorrow and Friday to be mostly cloudy with occasional sky drippage and highs in the low 80s. The sun should return for the weekend.
