Woman Thrown From Minivan, Killed During Car Crash

080910van.jpg A Staten Island woman was ejected from a minivan and killed after a car crash on Saturday. Police say 21-year-old Nadwa Fayad was thrown from her seat when the minivan was T-boned by a BMW at Hylan Boulevard, and then crushed to death when the minivan tipped on its side. The four other minivan passengers suffered minor injuries, but the BMW driver emerged unscathed. The driver remained on the scene, and was not charged. They almost never are.

A Facebook page has been created for people who want the Staten Island Councilmen to take action. More and more accidents are occurring on the island, making it dangerous for people to walk the streets. What this article doesn't say is this woman's husband was beside himself at the scene. He was screaming and crying, "My wife! My wife!" as he looked at his wife's body sticking out from under their van, while the rest of the car's occupants were pried out with the jaws of life. And for what? Because someone was in a hurry? This family will never be the same. Countless other families have been destroyed in similar circumstances. Please join this page to help in our effort to have the SI councilmen protect our families by making our roads safer.

The Daily News link doesn't establish that the BMW was definitely in the wrong. Coulda been the minivan's fault.

  • Potty Boy

    Yup. No blame imputed whatsoever.

you guys (gothamist writers) really like to play up that drivers aren't charged with a criminal act in car accidents. what you never take into account is that even though they aren't being charged as criminals, they are still going to get the shit sued out of them in civil court. i just think it's a little disingenuous to act like they aren't going to be punished.

    Yes, because money fixes everything.

For most people it does. If they don't have their loved ones money is a good substitute because by then our family will know what we're worth monetarily.

    Seatbelts save lives.

(shaking head) and people still regularly make cute comments when I put on my seatbelt as a backseat passenger.
