Pedestrian Struck, Dragged By Livery Cab In Midtown

2010_07_midped.jpg Last night, after 9:30 p.m., a woman was struck and dragged by a livery cab in Midtown East. According to WABC 7, "Eyewitnesses say the car ran a red light and hit the woman as she crossed East 54th Street at Lexington Avenue Thursday night. The victim was pinned under the car. People had to bang on the driver's window to let him know he hit someone. Several men then lifted the car to free the woman." She was taken to New York Presbyterian and is in critical condition. It's unclear if the driver was charged.

This is my neighborhood. This is absolutely standard behavior for drivers here. I've personally seen two people get hit since I moved to this neighborhood three years ago. Here's what will happen: shell probably die, and he will get a couple points on his license.

Come on, now. Aren't you exaggerating? Everybody knows that bike riders, not car drivers, are the real menaces on NYC streets. "thefacts" and a few others never fail to reiterate that here on Gothamist.

9:30? no reason for this to happen.

this is the fault of the driver. unfrikinbelievable.

It's been said before but I'll say it again, the cab/livery drivers in New York are completely out of control and allowed to run wild; and all of the special rules to make them accept credit cards, go to sensitivity classes, etc. is bullshit. They drive the streets of the city like it's New Delhi.

  • Rocknrope

I agree, but I'm not sure if the credit card acceptance thing helps with that.
