52% Of NYers Want To See Arizona's Immigration Law Here

Did all the protesting and demonstrating in NYC against Arizona's immigration-enforcement law give you a warm fuzzy feeling that blue state New Yorkers are quite the progressive bunch? Well, it's time to reevaluate. A new poll [pdf] by the Siena Research Institute—the same one that noted 61% opposition to the "Ground Zero" mosque—has more disillusioning news in store for any liberal New Yorker who feels sure that what happened in Arizona could never happen here.

According to the poll, 70% of New York residents feel the presence of illegal immigrants poses a "significant problem," and 57% are okay with people being required to produce documents on request to verify they're in the U.S. legally. But the icing on the Glenn Beck birthday cake is that 52% would like to see a law like the one passed in Arizona materialize in New York. The poll's director, Don Levy, said that about 25% "agree that the law is necessary to combat a list of problems caused by illegal immigration" and the government's failure to secure borders, "while a nearly equal percentage argue that the law will lead to racial profiling and that it will negatively affect the rights of individuals."

Predictably, support for such a bill is lowest amongst New York City residents, where 3 million of the state’s 4 million immigrants live—as well as amongst the state’s Hispanics, African-Americans and Democrats—and support is highest amongst Republicans, upstaters and suburbanites. The WSJ blog Metropolis took a look at the poll’s crosstabs [pdf], and found that within New York City, opposition to the Arizona bill runs a relatively healthy 3-to-1.

There may be some light at the end of this constitutionally unsound tunnel, if only on the island: At least two-thirds of New Yorkers support a legal temporary worker program as well as a "tough but fair path to legalization." Levy said, "The devil still lies in the details."

SB-1070 is posted online (Gothamist isn't very hypertext-friendly). It's about racial profiling, not immigration reform. Perhaps NYer's would better look into why people flee Mexican poverty to El Norte under duress, like NAFTA's US maquiladoras (sweatshops) below the border making our blood-products at $1.75/hr.

Who would pick the strawberries? Definitely not gringos.

    Viva Zapata.

Who the fuck is The Siena Research Institute? This story is 101% BULLSHIT

    Yes, it is BS.

"This SRI survey was conducted July 27-29 and August 2-3, 2010 by telephone calls to 622 New York State residents."

Sienna is north of Albany, called 622 people and for some reason the results are headline-worthy.

JUST THE TIP OF THE FINANCIAL ICEBERG

No state has remained untouched in supporting monetarily illegal aliens and families as welfare is easily accessible through citizen-children born here under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. According to FAIR, (Federation for American Immigration Reform) Illegal Immigration expenditures have reached $113 Billion annually as a Drain on U.S. Taxpayers, with a very large plus additional of $60 billion dollars earned by illegal aliens in the U.S. each year. This being Mexico's largest revenue streams (after exports and oil sales) consists of money sent home by legal immigrants and illegal aliens working in America.

Those who believe we can keep on accepting millions of people annually should read this repeated excerpt about a family of illegal immigrants described in the Spring 2005 Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons: Below is the consequences of the instant citizenship that has become a national plague in the last twenty years. TAKE A MINUTE IN INVESTIGATING OF EXPENDITURES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS AT GOOGLE AND YAHOO.

“Cristobal Silverio came illegally from Oxtotilan, Mexico, in 1997 and brought his wife Felipa, plus three children aged 19, 12 and 8. Felipa … gave birth to a new daughter, her anchor baby, named Flor. Flor was premature, spent three months in the neonatal incubator, and cost San Joaquin Hospital more than $300,000. Meanwhile, (Felipa’s 19-year-old daughter) Lourdes plus her illegal alien husband produced their own anchor baby, Esmeralda. Grandma Felipa created a second anchor baby, Cristian. … The two Silverio anchor babies generate $1,000 per month in public welfare funding. Flor gets $600 per month for asthma. Healthy Cristian gets $400. Cristobal and Felipa last year earned $18,000 picking fruit. Flor and Cristian were paid $12,000 for being anchor babies.” This is of course Mexico, but other countries citizens are aware of this gaping hole, especially poor undeveloped countries. But for the price of an airline ticket, they can gain access to American hospitals and receive free natal treatment, as well as the baby born there where payment reverts to the taxpayer.

This whole Arizona debate is nonsense used to keep people distracted from the real issue. I'm not for or against the illegal immigrants because I see a much bigger problem facing America today.

In tough economic times, such as these, the American public needs someone to blame for the high unemployment rate, loss jobs, etc., etc. They don't want you to blame the American companies who have taken all the manufacturing jobs out of the U.S.. They also don't want you to blame the politicians who aren't using our taxes for the greater good. They already gave you the welfare recipients to kick around and with so many Americans, despite working, having to turn to public assistance it doesn't have the same power it once had. No they needed a universal foe that both Republicans and Democrats could really hate and get angry at, so they conveniently give you the "illegal immigrants" to kick around. Hopefully these illegal immigrants will keep you busy so you don't go around poking further and seeing the bigger picture and what's really going on. Illegal immigrants are not the problem, at least not the problem that they're being made out to be. Please consider this, if you deported every illegal immigrant, which is virtually impossible, we'd still be faced with ridiculous rates of unemployment, high taxes, never ending wars, and a growing deficit.

Please don't fall for the okey-doke, don't look down to find the source of your problems, look up! Look at America's Top 1%, the ones that as of 2007 owned 50.3 % of America, they are looting this country. Since 2001 we have spent $1 Trillion in taxpayer money to fund these wars and aside from all the good we could've done for our own citizens had we invested it in education or healthcare in this country, the true issue here is that as we point fingers at each other or pick on the illegal immigrants, the Top 1% got richer and richer and the rest of us are got poorer and poorer. We pay taxes and then our politicians at the urgence of the Top 1% lobbyists give the money to them as subsidies, or for bailouts, or as stimulus money, or for military equipment or services related to these wars, oil cleanups, etc., etc., and they continue to get richer and richer.

Look to see who's profitting from these wars? Who ended up profitting from the economic meltdown? Who's going to profit from the oil spill cleanup? Not you, not me, not the illegal immigrants! It was America's elite, the mega-millionaires and billionaires who are looting this country.

According to economist Edward N. Wolff at New York University (2010) the bottom 80% of Americans only owned 7% of America's financial wealth. How long can this go on? What's it going to take to realize that this Top 1% is the biggest problem facing America? The terrorists are just a nuisance compared to them. Americans are becoming economic slaves to this Top 1%. There's no end in sight, they've destroyed the middle class, along with the American Dream and now the only thing left is to squeeze everything out of America's working poor. America we need to wake up before its too late and we're all working at Walmart for minimum wage with no benefits, while the Walmart family posts record profits.

Let's use our own mayor as an example.

    This is directly from wikipedia:

"Michael Rubens Bloomberg (born February 14, 1942) is the current Mayor of New York City, and the 8th richest person in the United States with personal wealth of US$18 billion in 2010." ... "In March 2009, Forbes reported Michael Bloomberg's wealth at $16 billion, a gain of $4.5 billion since the previous year"

While most New Yorkers were figuring out how to survive during these hard economic times his wealth grew by $4.5 BILLION in one year! Couldn't his wealth just grow up say $2 billion and the other $2.5 billion go to raises or bonuses for the thousands of workers his various companies employ? Then again this is the man who was opposed to workers making $10/hr on tax payer subsidized projects! I don't know how he can call himself a philanthropist, but that's a whole other discussion. This just one example of the rich getting richer while we, the bottom 90% of the country, suffer.

But the media has told us that the our problems are due to the illegal immigrants and here we are doing as we're told kicking these horrible illegal immigrants around as the country's elite are laughing at us, laughing all the way to the bank.

  • JacqueMehoff

You are correct, immigration isn't the problem.

it never was. it's all smoke and mirrors to get the racist dopes going. oh no? did I just say that? did I pull out the race card from my deck?

oh and did you know that there was a time in America when the Irish and the Italians were not considered "White"?

  • inoyourider

    You always do.

It's your only point, no matter the topic.

It's all you've got; a sad little crutch for a sad excuse of a man.

Oh, and if you're trying to "stick it to me" (you go, you racist fool) with the Italian-Irish comments, fail.

Fail all around for that matter, you racist dope you.

  • JacqueMehoff

no, you're the sad one. just by looking at your post history.

like I said in another post, I'm going to keep on mentioning that fact.

what fact? did you know that there was a time in America when the Irish and the Italians were not considered "White"? yep, it's a true fact.

  • inoyourider

And it's completely irrelevant, just as you are.

  • JacqueMehoff

You still here? you are one sad person, I've noticed you upped your hatred with more vile posts.

    oh and didn't you know?

There was a time in America when the Irish and the Italians were not considered "White". yep, true fact.

and, they didn't have any race card but were still ready to use it, just like you and your racist dopes.

  • inoyourider

    Keep playing that race card.

It's all you've got so hang on tight.

    Never mind it's fucking irrelevant.

God forbid you embrace the concept of personal responsibility.

So the Irish played the race card?- well fuck those that did, too.

No race card here, just individualism.

No need to make up excuses for one's shortcomings.

Embrace them, rise above, and move forward.

    Can't pass a test?

Poor fuckin' baby- go cry that race card like the little bitch you are.

  • JacqueMehoff

what? you mean you're not sending me a Christmas card this year? oh, that's OK.

did you know that there was a time in America when The Irish AND the Italians were not considered "White"? amazing, ain't it? but, it's true.

They were a despicable law breaking bunch. I would even say crime was committed mostly by them.

  • inoyourider

    Yup they probably sucked.

    Just like your irrelevant ass.

When you have nothing relevant to say, and when you're not man enough to be responsible for your own shortcomings, just bring up race and point fingers.

The era of race-based entitlement is coming to an end.

Hope it's gotten you where you need to go.

Soon, you'll need to pull your own weight like the rest of us.

    Good luck with that.

  • JacqueMehoff

    I know, right?

did you know there really was a time in America when the Irish and the Italians were not considered "White"?

friggin amazing, in this day and age. and yet they still got race based benefits from then on. from favored GI loans to jobs. it just never ends, this race care they still play.

amazing, those despicable people, still crying the race card. woe is me.
