Ann Coulter Headlining Gay Republican Bash

080610coulter.jpg Step right up and get your tickets for the first annual Homocon! No, it's not a convention for escaped homosexual convicts (that would be awesome), it's a political convention for openly gay Republicans. They somehow exist, and GOProud, the only national organization representing gay conservatives, is throwing a big party next month to celebrate their cognitive dissonance. The headliner will be none other than Ann "Come On I Dare You To Punch Me in My Smug Face, You Fairy" Coulter, who previously called John Edwards a "faggot" when he was running for president, and called former vice president Al Gore a "total fag." This is going to be fabulous revolting.

"The gay left has done their best to take all the fun out of politics, with their endless list of boycotts and protests," declares Christopher Barron, Chairman of the Board of GOProud. "Homocon is going to be our annual effort to counter the ‘no fun police’ on the left. I can’t think of any conservative more fun to headline our inaugural party then the self-professed ‘right-wing Judy Garland’—Ann Coulter." When you think about it, the Garland comparison isn't so crazy, because who doesn't wish upon a star that a tornado would come take Coulter away?

Tickets go on sale August 20th and cost $250. [Via Joe.My.God.]

the only national organization representing gay conservatives

really? what happened to the Log Cabin Republicans?

  • robingee

"Our gays are more macho than their straights!" is such a stupid tagline. Any gay person who attends this is truly self-loathing.

President Obama’s back-burner approach to LGBT issues is absolutely no surprise. Politically the issues are very unattractive to most Americans, and their advancement wouldn’t help drive new voters to the Democrat party (it would indeed drive much more away). The vast majority of LGBT voters already are knee-jerk Democrats.

"The right wing Judy Garland"? Well, a near-lifelong addiction to speed, downers, and alcohol would explain a lot.

Although the real truth about Ann Coulter is even scarier.

Will a story about Ann and gay republicans make it to Digg? Maybe, maybe not.

    Tran Coulter

  • Ain't nothing wrong with people who happen to be trans. Don't be mean & associate them with Coulter!

  • I can stand behind gay Republicans. No problem. I cannot stand and watch as Coulter besmirches the good name of national treasure, Miss Judy Garland.

Jay meet Ron Paul. Ron Paul meet Jay.

He is far from perfect (see Borat for instance); but short of resurrecting Barry Goldwater from the grave we'll never get a more intellectually honest argument for gay rights in this day and age than mainsteam-ish libertarians and a few dems (perhaps Kucinich). Mainstream Dems and Repubs differences are stylistic *at best*.

  • Everyone raises a very good point in that Democrats have done pretty close to jack/squat for gay folks. Except-- & here is the kicker that is worth noting-- Republican have done HUGE CAMPAIGN DRIVES & SWEEPING LEGISLATION that happen to be AGAINST gay people. Oh, I agree that the Democrats should get their gay donations rescinded (& sent to third party candidates) but "nothing" is a big change from targeted attempts to build institutionalized discrimination.

There ARE decent guys with the (R) after their name, sure-- Arnold Schwarzenegger comes to mind-- but they are the outliers, not the party line.

what is rally interesting is that while Democrats have done little for gays, REPUBLICANS DO NOTHING FOR NOBODY except a 2% of the population, DESTROY IT ALL BY PURE ABUSE AND OPPOSE EVERYTHING, including gays!

Damn this country is dumber and dumber thanks to the right wing media machine !

  • bleeckerite

Vote against one's own best interests - I'll make it to the top 1% one day.

  • nevilleross

Had both you, Mordecai, Amanda, and the rest of the nation voted for Ralph Nader, you all wouldn't have to worry about Democrat support for gay marriage. But you didn't, so I suggest that you all stop using Obama as your punching bag, get off of your collective asses, and work against the Religious Right where-ever and whenever they open their mouths or protest. They are the ones who need to get lashed, not Obama.

  • bleeckerite

What I wrote was actually a commentary on how many right-wingers think. Just sayin'.

Also, Obama has publicly stated he is not for gay marriage during his campaign. So it's not a shock to me.

  • thatsomeoneisme

Ann Coulter? Seriously? She'll probably try to convince the audience that "gay republican" is actually an oxymoron, since Larry Craig and other repubs have asserted that no such thing exists. You know she'll address them in that condescending tone of hers. The organizers must be sadists.

  • gagneur

one can only hope that the prom scene from Carrie is reinacted.

  • PKMKII

Maybe they think Ann is really a drag queen character?

  • bleeckerite

That Adam's Apple can fool anybody.

  • ides_of_march

FYI: the Obama administration is against gay marriage too. Also, prop 8 in California passed in large part due to first time black voters who came out to support Obama. But if it makes you all feel better to focus your animosity on your favorite boogeymen, white republicans, have a field day.

  • psquire

That is complete and utter B.S., are you crazy? But, hey, you want to vote and pursue some third party candidates out of sheer and utter laziness, and basically help push the GOP back to relevance, it's your own damn fault. Liberals are such fucking idiots when it comes to this crap, the smart rightwingers know when to pipe down and let their group get traction first and then push an agenda. If you don't rule the middle, you don't rule at all, so deal with it, for now.

  • PKMKII

The difference is that everyone knows that the moment opinion polls nationwide support gay marriage, the Democrats will be all over it like a fat kid on cake. It's the worst-kept secret in Washington that Democrats are against gay marriage not because of their beliefs, but because they want to get reelected.

Republicans, on the other hand, are against gay marriage and mean it, because an ancient book of hebrew fables told them so.

(oh, and Prop 8 still would have passed without the black vote)
