Quail Chicks Hatch At Queens Zoo

The Queens Zoo just received some new avian additions, dozens of bobwhite quail chicks! The chicks hatched last month, and visitors can now spot them all over the zoo's aviary; we're told they are usually found in groups of four or five, being led by one of the adult female quails. And while they may not seem as adorable as, say, baby sea lions, here's a little background info from the Wildlife Conservation Society explaining more about these little guys:

"The chicks are the first generation of this species to ever be born at WCS’s Queens Zoo. This popular game bird has disappeared in certain regions across North America due to over-hunting. Its grassland habitats face serious environmental threats. WCS has many ongoing field projects throughout the continent to help save threatened or endangered species and preserve habitats that are susceptible to destruction."

We're also told there is video footage here, but the WCS has locked it up—clearly some top secret quail stuff happening on there.

Quail Stuffed with Wild Mushrooms recipe

    Ingredients:

    4 large quail.

    1 tablespoon of olive oil.

    2 onions, diced.

    2 cups of breadcrumbs.

2 cups of wild mushrooms, sliced.

    Salt and freshly-ground black pepper.

    2 tablespoons of thyme, chopped.

    2 tablespoons of parsley, chopped.

    ½ cup of clarified butter.

    Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Debone the quail from the back, leaving the bird whole.

In a heavy-bottomed frying pan, heat the olive oil over a medium heat.

Add the onion and cook until caramelized and brown (about 15 minutes).

Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 1 minute.

Remove the pan from the heat and add the to the breadcrumbs.

Season to taste with salt and black pepper.

Lay the birds out flat and divide the stuffing equally between the 4 quail, putting the mixture in the middle of the flattened bird. Repeat with the chopped herbs.

Re-form the quail to their original shape, then place them in a tin foil nest and brush with clarified butter.

Place the quail in the oven to roast for 20 minutes.

    Remove from the oven.

    Serve.

  • The irony of someone named Cannibal posting a quail recipe makes me suspicious. Is this like some terrifying serial killing quail? WHO ARE YOU! What is your species!

Quails are not very good at typing. But you may be interested to know that cannibalism in nature is quite common. (as is homosexuality) Nature shows only show certain sides of actual nature, just like everything else on television, because the networks have agendas and sponsors to appease.

Male lions compete for dominance and when a new lion steals a pride the first thing he does is kill all the cubs, and eat a few (he just had a workout, protein is vital) This sends all the females into heat, which he then impregnates, thus destroying the weaker genes of the defeated male and furthering his superior ones.

Chimps are the worst. Pretty much all monkeys that are omnivorous eat the shit out of each other, and just randomly or for fun. And they do it in an unbelievably sadistic and brutal way. Not safe for Animal Planet. Oh and last I checked we were pretty genetically similar to the monkeys...

My bad... i guess it is safe for Animal Planet
