Gisele Wants Breastfeeding To Be "Worldwide Law"

giseleb0810.jpg Supermodel Gisele Bundchen is not satisfied with only having the world know that she's a gorgeous, rich, 30-year-old with NFL star quarterback Tom Brady between her thighs... but she's also immune to childbirth pains and has some very big ideas about "worldwide law." As one might imagine, this is just pissing off regular moms with regular husbands, standard bank accounts, and meh cheekbones.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, Bundchen made a comment about how “some people here think they don’t have to breastfeed, and I think, ‘Are you going to give chemical food to your child, when they are so little?’ There should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.” Models: they have opinions too! But over at the NY Post, a bitter-sounding Mandy Stadtmiller fires off a missive about the model's comments—calling her "the world’s most sanctimonious supermommy" and asking her to STFU please.

More surprisingly, however, Bundchen—who later apologized for the remarks— managed to slightly anger the breastfeeding advocacy group La Leche League International! Their executive director says, “One mother doesn’t have to be wrong so that another mother can be right. There are lots of choices out there for women, and La Leche League respects those choices.” She also pointed out that the model has never contacted the group to help out in their efforts. Which means there's probably a pretty good shot Bundchen won't be in charge of any "worldwide law" anytime soon. But one Manhattan mom wondered what would happen if she was, posing this question on strollerderby.com: “What about women who can’t breastfeed? Should they go to jail?

I think her intentions are good, but her statement is quite grand and obviously out of touch with the reality that some women can't breastfeed.

HOWEVER, there are many, many women who are capable of breastfeeding and choose not to. Only about 1/3 of US women breastfeed their children until 6 months and an estimated $13 billion/year in additional healthcare costs result from the lack of breastfeeding in this country.

Why women would choose to pay so much for formula when their bodies produce the best food for the baby, I don't understand.

    Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

She probably believes that there really IS a "World Wide Law" of some sort.

she's just a dumb model. she wasn't even thinking as she said that. most likely, she just said any word that came to her mind and it just happened to follow the rules of grammar enough to make a thought.

give her a break, in her mind, its just kittens tossing a ball of sparkly yarn.

    lol@ La Leche League.

Hasn't it been pretty widely demonstrated that mother's milk is much healthier for a child's development than formula?

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

yes except if the mother is a drug whore or the mother is malnourished because she is poor

    "Tom Brady between her thighs..."

keep it in your pants Jen!

also, the political views of models and actors are laughable from Sean Penn on down. fucking schmucks...

    Gisele,

I like your enthusiasm but no matter how beautiful you are, you look like a horrendous idiot when your mouth is open.

I know this'll blow your mind but you may want to consider the possibility of lactose intolerance. I have a friend who just had twins and all they can drink is formula. Breast milk makes them sick. So how does that fit in with your compulsory breastfeeding agenda?

Yeah, you might want to kick-start your brain before speaking next time. Or, if that's not possible, just stay quiet and look pretty. That's all we really want you for, anyway.

    Kisses,

    Me

The real irony is she has implants, which make breastfeeding more difficult. If it's oh so important, why would you do anything that risked screwing it up? Aren't children the most important thing in the whole wide world and ever putting yourself before them means you're a bad horrible person who will burn in hell?

  • EastRiver

If it's oh so important, why would you do anything that risked screwing it up?

She can probably give you tens of millions of reasons (but only in Euros). And now that I think about it, she didn't say you had to breast feed from your own breasts. She can just pay someone else.

  • Guest

yes! pay someone else for a boob job.

    i'm all for it.

    :D

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

uh... huh... wow... a-hem, uhm... huh... heh...

...yes, breast sucking should be a worldwide law. required, most definitely. couldn't think of anything better to think than...

    ...uh... huh... wow... a-hem. uhm...

I don't get what the BFD is. She's hired meat whose job is to stay pretty. At least she's not running for office where such remarks could actually come into fruition.

We don't like her for what she says. So the asspained moms are stirring up more of the trouble than she is- even if her words are lofty, unrealistic, and just plain dumb.

  • Cannibal

    What a moron.
