Anti-Defamation League Opposes Mosque Near Ground Zero

073010adl.jpg The Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish organization whose programs "counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry," has finally weighed in on the controversy engulfing an Islamic group that wants to build a community center and mosque near the World Trade Center site. This should calm everybody down:

Proponents of the Islamic Center may have every right to build at this site, and may even have chosen the site to send a positive message about Islam. The bigotry some have expressed in attacking them is unfair, and wrong. But ultimately this is not a question of rights, but a question of what is right. In our judgment, building an Islamic Center in the shadow of the World Trade Center will cause some victims more pain - unnecessarily - and that is not right.

The ADL's statement also argues that the "controversy which has emerged regarding the building of an Islamic Center at this location is counterproductive to the healing process." There they go again with "at." The mosque/community center—which would have no minarets or loudspeakers blasting the call to prayer—will be located two blocks from the World Trade Center site, with other properties creating a big buffer zone between the scary Muslims and those who want to wrap their bigotry in the 9/11 flag.

This mosque is meant to celebrate the islamic "victory" of 9-11 as they see it. That's why it's called Cordoba House, Cordoba, for those who bothered to read up on history, is synonymous with islamic conquest, and the mosque is set to open ON Sept 11th. It may well get built but at least I'm not one of you gullible, brainwashed, politically correct liberals who bought the line of crap about this being an effort at interfaith "outreach."

And with regard to the ADL, they've essentially said "it's totally legal for them to be here but we don't like them because they're muslim"

can't this make the ADL a hate group? seems pretty blatantly racist to me.

  • matty

    i meant prejudiced.

Cordoba was the Muslim stronghold in Souther Spain. Now that I think about it that's a pretty f'ed up name.

  • matty

But I think the point of the name is that Cordoba was a place that had high religious tolerance. Sapphardic jews thrived in Islamic spain, so did christians,

They want to remain THE most special victim and guilt trip Europe especially Germany for generations and generations to come.

More Russians and Chinese died in WW2 than Jews. And in terms of percentages, it is estimated that the Mongolian invasion reduced the Persian population by 90% and reduced China's population by about 50%.

The following was taken from the ADL's website:

The Anti-Defamation League was founded in 1913 "to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all." Now the nation's premier civil rights/human relations agency, ADL fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all.

A leader in the development of materials, programs and services, ADL builds bridges of communication, understanding and respect among diverse groups, carrying out its mission through a network of 30 Regional and Satellite Offices in the United States and abroad.

What I want to know is how the the opening of a mosque near the WTC is:

    1. a defamation of the Jewish people,

    2. a form of antisemitism from which Jewish people need to defend themselves.

Furthermore, how is opposing the construction of said mosque supposed to "build bridges of communication, understanding and respect among diverse groups..."?

Really ADL...it seems to me like you are not following your own founding principles.

Does anyone from ADL have anything intelligent to say about this? Please do so...I really want to know.

    Thanks.

So no German beer gardens near Jewish businesses. Because remember the Nazis? So dumb. To separate Americans from other Americans because of the actions of crazy people, isn't that letting the terrorists win?

I always thought the ADL was a civil rights organization. How naive.

Read the hundreds of activist groups and tens of thousands of individuals that the ADL has on its "blacklist"

To name just an absurd few: Act-up, ACLU, Women's Film Collective, scores of civil rights groups, ethnic organizations, even Boycott Coke, labor unions, and radio stations, etc

ADL’s main quarrel is not with anti-Semitism. It’s with reality. It’s with the fact that many people believe what the Jews say and repeat it on the internet, especially the Jewish accomplishment of attaining staggering control in media, government and finance. Such repetition of what Jews have told us, especially if spoken in a critical way, now becomes for ADL “virulent anti-Semitism.”

In ADL’s perfect world, Jews should be able to boast of their incredible emergence from persecution to dominance of the most influential sectors of society, and receive Gentile praise for that, without enduring suspicion or criticism.

To the delight of ADL, such utopia is now realized from tens of millions of evangelicals. Yet ADL, in its Department of Global Anti-Semitism in the US State Department, accuses evangelicals of “classic anti-Semitism” for believing the New Testament account that Jews had Christ killed.

ADL director Abe Foxman says that 45 years ago one third of Americans were “seriously infected” with anti-Semitism. Now, he says, 12 to 14 percent are in that category. This, he contends, amounts to 40 million Americans.

However, there are another 40 million who are “mildly” infected. They believe, he says, that Jews are “too powerful in finance,” “control the government,” and “control Hollywood.” Such “mild” anti-Semitism, Foxman claims, includes the belief that “the Jews killed Christ.”

I'd like to know what Islamic culture is.

  • blink

If the fascist racist ADL is against it, then I'm for it.

  • PKMKII

I'm sure this move will help heal the divide between Jews and Muslims.
