Paterson Finally Breaks Silence Over Jersey Shore

patersonshore.jpg It's silly enough when civilians spend valuable time talking about Jersey Shore, but when politicians do it, it's just, well, sigh-worthy. In a recent interview NJ Governor Chris Christie said the show was negative for his state, explaining, "what it does is takes a bunch of New Yorkers—most of the people on Jersey Shore are New Yorkers ... [and] drops them at the Jersey Shore, and tries to make Americans feel like this is New Jersey."

Now in response to the comment, Governor Paterson—after pondering how Christie has time to watch MTV's reality programing—said of the cast, "Well maybe they are better when they're in New York than they're in New Jersey."

Not really—but we'll give the Gov a pass since he hasn't seen the show (allegedly!). What Christie failed to recognize is that these cast members perfectly represent parts of the Jersey Shore, because while some of them may be New Yorkers, they are the kind of people who are attracted to the Jersey Shore scene—the whole thing is a state of mind, you see. And of course, what Christie should really be worried about (aside from governing his state) is how the cast members of Jerseylicious, Jersey Couture and (especially) Real Housewives of New Jersey are repping the dirty Jerz.

Chris Christie is right. The "Jersey Shore" stereotype actually represents the reality of Staten Island, which, we mustn't forget, is part of New York.

    Anyway, Chris Christie rules.

What is even sillier is the fact that you, Jen Carlson, seem to express disdain towards this scenario while you are the biggest culprit there is. The amount of imbecile blog posts written by you about this show and the other Jersey "reality" shows is downright obsessive. I counted three posts today alone before my head exploded. You love it, yet pretend you are above it.

Sadly, this is not the first time I've heard this desperate, anti-NJ argument. New Jersey sucks because the people who go there suck, and it doesn't matter that they're from NY. Umm, no. Your statement is BS because designating people who aren't from Jersey to represent Jersey is just as absurd as the way the NY media tries to use transplants to exemplify NY. This "Jersey Shore scene" you speak of could just as easily have been the "Hamptons scene", or the "Manhattan club scene," but the Jersey premise is the most buzzworthy, and will result in the most mindless viewers like yourself. Do yourself a favor and turn off your television, because it is an obvious major influence in your daily life. Nothing on TV is real, and your writing is equivalent to a teenager's.

MTV is ruining America's youth. I don't understand how they get away with half of the bullshit they show on there.

If that makes you feel better.......... Keep telling yourself that.

NJ has to deal with them for a few months in the summer, their all yours the rest of the year.

I'll give you this New York; You people blindly, unequivocally & absolutely refuse to accept anything other than "your" truth.

A state of mind you say? Indeed. One born on your side of the river.

Try & spin it any way you want, but New York will always be the Mecca & Medina of guidos. Regardless of where they spend their summer.
