  • Yankees 12 Kansas City 6: A 2-1/2 hour rain delay put an early end to Phil Hughes’ day, but the Yankees’ bullpen did enough to preserve the win. Curtis Granderson had his best game as a Yankee, hitting two homers, stealing a base and scoring three runs. A-Rod didn’t homer, but he had three RBI’s while Mark Teixeira continued his on base streak with two more hits. The Yankees finish their homestand with a 6-3 record and now head onto Cleveland.

  • LA 1 Mets 0: Once again a single run sent the Mets to defeat. The Dodgers scored on a two-out double in the eighth to take the series 3-1. New York had a good opportunity in the sixth inning, but Jose Reyes was picked off after a leadoff single and David Wright and Carlos Beltran couldn’t’ get Luis Castillo home from second with one out. The Mets limp home to face the Cardinals Tuesday after this 2-9 trip.

Joba: Another relief appearance, another two runs given up.

If it weren't for the Royals sad pitching and the Yankees continued offensive barrage, he would be responsible for another blown lead. Trade deadline: July 31. ERA nearing 6.00.

Is there any point in doing it now rather than at the end of the season? Will a change improve anything?

Nothing left to say -- the Yankees heading for the playoffs, the Mets toward the layoffs.
