Brooklyn Residents Rally Against Movie Noise

This year's Movies With A View series kicked off on July 8th with a screening of Annie Hall, and after last Thursday's screening of Monsters vs. Aliens, Brooklyn Heights residents had enough of the ongoing summer event.

According to the Brooklyn Paper, locals preferred the old site in DUMBO (pictured) over the new one on Pier 1. Community Board 2 member Rob Perris told the paper, “There were swift and numerous complaints after this first event. I think what we have to find out is how the sound travels, and how it is best contained.”

Allegedly Park officials have written a letter warning that there would be more amplified events in the park this summer, but did note that they'll "fine-tune the presentation.” One possible solution is turning the speakers toward the East River, but how about bringing in some old drive-in movie technology? Or maybe just bring back the helicopters to distract the locals with.

    So now NYers hate Mr.Softee, street vendors, street fairs and outdoor movies, it seems they hate everything, it's sad. New York is not ,and never will, be a suburb and whoever chooses to live here must accept that or find a nice country home to move to.

    It's a two hour movie a few times a summer, how bad or disturbing can it possibly be?

    There's so many miserable people in this city just looking for reasons to be mad, it's pathetic.

    so many people seem to feel bad about a lot of things, and the list is increasing, still.

    once i've heard someone say, "in this world, cranky is winning."

    so i say, crankily, "then just fucking feel good, you fuckin' fucks!"

    i'd rather choose to feel good in stupid situations, even if i'm not good at it yet.

    flexibility is a wonderful thing.

    What can we deduce from this story?

    1) That none of the HORDES of people whose parlor parties were allegedly disturbed have ever set foot in the park, or ever will, lest they be forced to rub elbows with street urchins and other assorted scalawags, and;

    2) That not a one of these people have done their own laundry, ever, and;

    3) That Rob Perris very well might be able to produce evidence of the "voluminous" outpouring of protest against the volume of a movie, and that wouldn't surprise a single person living in NYC.

    Why is it that anything good that happens along the downtown Brooklyn waterfront is always (and swiftly) met with voluminous sour lemons from these whining, over-entitled, self-deluded douchebags in Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill? Ungrateful bitches.

    Frankly, I wish the state had spent their several hundred million on a waterfront park for Hunts Point or Sunset Park, where people would appreciate it. They sure as hell wouldn't complain about having a free movie screening on the waterfront.

    Oh, Gothamist. How you skew. A statement from one community board member now equals "Brooklyn residents rally against movie noise."

    I, a Brooklyn resident and frequent BBP movie-goer, am now stating that the noise at the movies is not a problem, at all.

    You may now publish the headline: "Brooklyn residents rally in defense of movies."

    C'mon, it's not like this is a chronic problem. It's a few times a summer, Scrooge, so suck it.

    wait, wait, wait. just in the nick of time before the big lebowski viewing on thursday night?

    hmm... it's really clear, folks, movie-goers and the big lebowski fans. this is just a huge conspiracy against the big lebowski, and nothing else -- nothing else what-so-ever.

    fight the power!

    ps i guess it just ain't no bryant park, eh?

    or maybe people should just be watching movies in their homes or in movie theaters.

    This is why I hate Crooklyn and everything associated with it. Just because you rubes choose to live out there, you still live near a major urban city and noise is PART AND FUCKING PARCEL.

    and the BQE isn't loud?
