This opens up a whole can of worms, who decides what religious organization get what?

Most religious organizations have enough money already and are tax exempt so I'm sure they can install their own cameras and safety exits.

So how much is the new mosque by the WTC going to get?

Surely we're not going to help the Muslims protect themselves from terrorists and the Catholics are unlikely targets so I think it's safe to say that Jewish Synagogues will get a bulk of these funds.

Seems like just some government sanctioned taxpayer funded donations to the city's Jewish community.

Let's see if you can understand this. I believe in this country's ideology of the "separation of church and state" especially when it comes to our taxpayer money. With that being said, I'm against the government giving taxpayer money to Catholics, I'm against the government giving taxpayer money to Muslims and yes, unfortunately your religion is not exempt, I'm also against the government giving taxpayer money to Jews. It is my firm believe that the government should never give money to any religious institution for any reason.

With that being said, I also find it particularly troubling that Anthony Weiner (a Jew), who just last week married a Muslim, orchestrated this. The timing of this announcement is very suspicious to me. It seems to me that this was Weiner's way of appeasing the Jewish community and letting them know he's still fighting for them, with the hopes that they forgive him for sleeping with the enemy, before he runs for Mayor again. It's actually a shrewd strategical move on Weiner's part, but I don't appreciate that his "damage control" is costing the taxpayers $5.8 million. Next time he wants to pull a public relations stunt to enhance his image he should do it with his own money.
