Graffit Artist Finds Out If Bribing A Cop With $10 Works

2010_07_spraypaint.jpg When does graffiti not go well with a ten dollar bill? When the tenner is used to bribe a cop. According to the Post's NYPD Blotter: "Arnaldo Eusebio, 19, was caught by officers with graffiti gear on Sheridan Avenue near 164th Street at 3 a.m. Thursday, cops said. 'I heard that if you give a cop money, they will let you go. All I have is 10 bucks. I just want to see if you'll let me go,' he allegedly told police before pulling a $10 bill from his left shoe." In fact, they did not let him go.

"In fact, they did not let him go."

    Italicized for dramatic effect.

It sounds insulting to offer so little money for a cop to throw his/her career away, but every now and then one of them does exactly that for chump change.

@pandarelated...graff gear can be considered spray paint cans, gas masks, fat tipped markers. technically they arent illegal if you are older than 18 (dont know about the gas masks...and really only graff artists who are doing HUGE pieces use them...this kid was probably some rinky dink who was writing Julio was here or some such non sense).

i think graffiti can be absolutely beautiful. and can DEFINITELY be considered art. (i was born and raised here and i remember what the city used to look like so please dont give me the...oh you must not know what the 80s in nyc looked like) BUT at the same time, i do think that if you arent commissioned to do it (like on a mural or storefront or something) or you arent doing it on your own property you are a VANDAL.

i have all those things. but i don't write graffiti. i just like making stuff. this kid was over 18. so he legally could have it. i don't see any crime other then an half ass attempt to bribe a cop. to get out of a situation the cops put him in.

  • pandarelated

what is "graffiti gear" and how is it illegal to have it?

  • jaycjay

New York Penal Law Section 145.65:

A person is guilty of possession of graffiti instruments when he possesses any tool, instrument, article, substance, solution or other compound designed or commonly used to etch, paint, cover, draw upon or otherwise place a mark upon a piece of property which that person has no permission or authority to etch, paint, cover, draw upon or otherwise mark, under circumstances evincing an intent to use same in order to damage such property.

The NYC Administrative Code carries an additional law specifying that it's illegal to possess broad-tipped markers or aerosol spray can on public property or in a public facility, regardless of intent.

Though "was caught by officers with graffiti gear" makes it sound like the cops were the ones who had it.

Graffiti "artist"? Graffiti VANDAL is the correct term.

When they spray paint their little cartoons on a proper canvas or tag their own property, they can be called artists. Still crappy artists, but artists in the generic sense.

You need 2 more zeros if you want to bribe cops.
