Where the incident occurred on N 7th St near Driggs
A local Brooklyn resident tells us that the NYPD immediately reached out to the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals to get the Williamsburg dog who was thrown to the ground Wednesday night the veterinary care he needed. The resident contacted them in hopes of adopting the dog, who is now going by the name Will, and was told he is currently in intensive care but stable at a veterinary hospital.

The dog's owner, 30-year-old Alexandra Mendez-Diaz, has been arraigned and charged with animal torture and marijuana possession—we're now told that the Brooklyn DA's office may be looking for witnesses to testify.

We've contacted the Mayor's Alliance for more details on Will—who was described to us as a "little white puppy"—and will continue to update on his status.

Is it known if she ouright owned the dog, how long she had possession of it and how she came to acquire it?

I wish there were a way to make sure that this incident follows this woman around for the rest of her life, when she applies for a job, when she tries to sign a lease, a constant murmurring behind her back everywhere she goes.

There's a special place in Hell for people who hurt the innocent. The maitr'e d just set up her reservation.

The woman has clearly serious mental problems.

Why so many here people want her severely punished and not treated for her mental condition is indicative of unwarranted and ill-placed vengeance.

Crazy people murder humans and get mitigation due to their insanity.

However, you beat a dog and some want her to suffer in jail.

    Incredible!

I agree this woman needs help, I hope she gets it.

But I'm happy to hear that Will is recovering.

    Thanks for the update.

how do you know she needs help??? Do murderers, rapists, pedophiles need help as well? She bytch needs to be evicted and put in jail. She is a fucking monster. And truefacts, you fucking animal hater, she didn't beat her dog but slam him on the PAVEMENT.

I'm not going to get into this "animals vs humans" debate, I know we can all co-exist together. I feel there is not enough information on this case to say that this was a pattern of hers. None of the neighbors have expressed that this woman acts like this regularly. In my humble opinion, I think either she had some kind of breakdown and snapped or got a bad batch od drugs, either way I try not to judge people by one isolated incident. However, do I feel she should pay for her actions? Absolutely. But I think part of her punishment should be to force her to seek treatment whether that's anger management classes or therapy, or medication is up to the doctors. I think I read that the max for this crime is a year in jail and/or a fine. So even if we give her the max without addressing her issues that led up to this, she can be free to commit another act like this within a year and next time the victim, whether it's an animal or human, may not survive. That's why I believe in rehabilitation because without it things like this just repeat themselves.

People, and animals, just snap and do crazy things sometimes but I think that when we're punishing them for their actions we should take into consideration if it was an isolated incident or if there's a pattern to their behavior. I looked at this woman's friendster page and she's college educated, in fact she's pursuing a Masters in Poetry, and she seemed pretty normal so I don't know what led to this but I definitely think she would, and society at large, would benefit from her seeking professional help.

Let me ask you a question, what if a perfectly healthy, obedient, family dog with no history of being violent one day just got scared or snapped and bit a stranger, do you think that dog should be destroyed because of this one isolated incident?

Thank you for the update! I hope the cruel woman gets appropriately punished by law (doubt it though...). The community should also treat her as she deserves; nasty piece of trash.

I literally laughed out loud at this headline...these animal stories have jumped the shark. Why can't you just update your previous two entires of this complete non-event Jen

Because she's busy updating James Franco's whereabouts.
