Victoria's Secret Latest Chain With Bedbug Problem

2010_07_vicunder.jpg The bloodthirsty bedbug army continues to maraud through Manhattan's big name clothing chains; having already brought Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch to their knees, bedbug forces briefly seized a Victoria's Secret store in Lenox Hill Wednesday, as part of a cunning ploy to make women across the city suddenly very squeamish. It's also believed that female bedbugs—who reproduce via traumatic insemination; i.e. getting jabbed in the abdomen by the male's sharp penis—look hot in a thong.

A spokeswoman for the store's parent company tells NY1 that "only a small and isolated area of the Lenox Hill store was affected...[and] the store was treated Wednesday morning and reopened later that day. All the merchandise in the affected section was removed and destroyed." The company is currently testing other stores for bedbugs citywide, but, again, just an isolated incident. Not trying to be alarmist. Unless you bought some underwear there Tuesday and put it on immediately without washing it, thereby infesting your ladyparts with bedbugs, you're probably fine.

And so the Cimex lectularius saga continues. Wer're on the steep, upswing side of this bell curve and it may not level out until they're everywhere. If we are going to gain control of these bugs every person will need to be vigilant, a lot of money will be spent and we're going to have to come up with better methods of control. (Unfortunately DDT turned out to be a mixed bag and we can't go back to it.)

And still no word from Bloomberg, no leadership, on this bad bug epidemic affecting so many NYers and NY businesses. So what can retailers do? Nothing. Just keep selling bed bugs. Bloomberg already told Abercrombie & Fitch to fuck off when they asked him for guidance after their outbreak.

Eventually everyone in NY will have bed bugs and Bloomberg will still be scared to mention it because it might keep tourists away or from shopping in our stores.

won't it be lovely when he has to treat his big, fancy town house, well probably not since he's one of the few people who can afford all the $$ it takes to do it, sigh.

  • traumatic insemination ftw

How is it these stores are magically getting rid of infestations in days or less? Everyone I know who's gotten bedbugs has a weeks-long process of washing, cleaning and throwing out stuff, and since DDT is banned in the US, constantly checking for their return.

  • Politburo

Unlikely that DDT would help. Bedbugs were resistant to DDT prior to the 1972 ban, and research indicates that they are likely still resistant.

  • yup...it's definitely friday.

anyone who knows anything about bedbugs knows this idea that "only an isolated part of the store was effected" is bullshit and scary.

  • Amalek

The problem is bigger than we can know because the city does NOT collect reports of bedbugs in commercial establishments. I know this because a while back I attempted to report being bitten at a well regarded Manhattan multiplex, only to discover that there was literally no agency with whom I could lodge my complaint -- not via 311, not directly to the Board of Health -- no place. They simply won't take the report because they do not even attempt to collect this information. Occasionally people complain to the press and there is a response, but otherwise, we are on our own with this.

  • Nyctini11

Report it here, at least to make others aware: www.bedbugregistry.com
