62 NYC Petland Discount Stores Pledge Against Puppy Mills

php5Ua8sTPM.jpg With talk of New York banning the sale of pets at pet stores, Petland Discounts is already moving toward becoming a puppy-friendlier, as they just signed The Humane Society of the United States' puppy friendly pet store pledge.

Petland Discounts, with nearly 100 outlets the NY Tri-State area, a privately owned pet store chain has signed The Humane Society of the United States' puppy friendly pet store pledge, committing not to sell puppies, but instead support local animal adoption programs and provide literature that helps customers learn how to locate a reputable breeder.

Petland's Amy Kimmel says they'll also provide savings on pet supplies for the animals adopted at their adoption events. The HSUS is applauding them, and the organization's Stephanie Shain clarifies that this is not part of the Petland chain—she says, "This company sets a positive example of corporate responsibility for other businesses to follow. Unlike the national Petland, Inc chain of pet stores that has been investigated by The HSUS and linked to puppy mills, the unaffiliated Petland Discounts chain has never sold puppies, supports animal shelters and pet adoption, and is part of the solution to the puppy mill problem.” Petland Discounts has 62 locations in the five boroughs.

Kudos to Petland Discounts. It's a credit to their business that they never sold puppies to begin with, and by publicly affirming their commitment to promote shelter adoptions and reputable breeders, they're supporting consumer awareness about puppy mills. For those who don't live in the Tri-State area, you can find a complete list of stores that have taken the puppy friendly pledge at http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/puppy_mills/facts/puppy_friendly_pet_stores.html.

This organization never did sell any animals to begin with so the only thing they are doing is using this as a marketing ploy. As for what will happen when these animal rights nuts remove all animals from our lives there won't be any need for Petland Pet Stores nor will there be any work for vets, or pets in your home. But you won't care as the majority of humans will be dead from lack of suitable nutrients in their diet. One only has to look at countries where their children lack enough meat in their diets to survive. This has to be one of the worst groups on this earth. This animal rights philosophy denies human beings their place in nature and their rights to food, medicine and the company of animals. Nature has built in for many species a collaboration between species for the survival of both species, not individuals but the entire species. When the bison became food for humans the species was no longer on the verge of extinction. The Tiger has been on the endangered species list for many years and the numbers continue to go down except in one place in China where they are raised to meet the needs of human beings. You may not agree with nature or the drives that nature has built into the species, but you cannot change nature or the needs of human beings just by declaring veganism as diet for health when we know that that is not so. Distorting research and throwing hot pepper pies in the face of others in your group who have come to realize the need for meat in their diet does not change the facts.

Any human being who forces a pregnant women or growing child to eat only raw food or vegetables should be charged with abuse. We are seeing irreversible damage in the organs of long term vegans. Animal rights groups have been pushing lies upon the public to the point that this philosophy has become a danger to our food supply, to domestic animals as a species and to the public welfare. Some human beings can be vegan without using any meat products for 10 to 15 years or more and others only a few months depending upon whether or not your digestive system can manufacture B12 and other essential nutrients that can only be supplied by meat protein. Growing children cannot supply this vitamin and need it to form proper brain cells. It is well known that there is not enough land to supply plant material to feed the human population. Now we have Peter Singer the leader of the animal rights movement advocating that this be the last generation of human beings in an article recently printed in the New York Times. This makes him a traitor to his species. Nothing will change on this earth if we remove the human element. I have never before other than in Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia seen such hatred of human beings presented by one philosophy than the animal rights movement which is a sham for a few human beings to make an incredible amount of money at the expense of animals and other human beings. HSUS has raised over 500 million dollars from animal lovers who thought their money would be going to care for homeless animals. Instead this money is being used to lobby for laws that will end the lives of all domestic animals. Nothing could be more clear than Wayne Pacelle or Ingrid Newkirks statements that they intend to end all use of animals thus ending the lives of all animals. They have both stated they do not believe in the breeding of any domesticated animal and both will only be happy when there are no more animals. Anyone who gives to these two organizations both money making scams should be ashamed of their stupidity and for being responsible for the mass killing of animals. Know that animal welfarist were the ones who lowered the kill rate for shelter animals to less than 4 million over the entire country and that single handily HSUS and PeTA have increased that kill rate by 227% through passing inhumane laws. As for increased scrutiny only HSUS wants that job and for nefarious reasons non of which have to do with animal welfare. They want to control our society for money and for the power it brings. Make no mistake about the goals of these power hungry organizations that routinely asked for animals to be killed and then raised money over their dead bodies. Petland where will you be when there are no more pets! Do you have a business plan for that outcome which according to Wayne Pacelle will happen sooner than you think.

If you are set on buying a puppy please download and read, “How To Buy A Puppy” before you consider parting with your money. It is free at www.howtobuyapuppy.net

Buying a puppy without problems is harder than most people think. Finding a responsible and knowledgeable breeder is very difficult.

Pet Central at Chelsea on 6th avenue and 23rd st is a great shop. They don't sell animals and they sell marvelous products for your companion pets. I usually go there to buy catnip for my 2 fellow whenever i plan to smoke weed on that day.

Thanks for the link; done! Does anyone know if there is a similar effort to ban dog sales in NYC pet stores, like in San Francisco?

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Thank you for your compassion. Currently there is no bill in the city council and I think it is because Christine Quinn has stop every animal welfare bill during her 10 year tenure including the pets in housing bills, sprinklers in pet shops bill, green cars replacing horse carriages bill, foie gras bill and the wild animal in circuses bill. Speaker Quinn scored a BIG ZERO consistently on the humane scorecard. Hopefully HSUS, Best friends, ASPCA and other groups will work on the state level to introduce such a bill.

    THANKS FOR YOUR COMPASSION.
