Last Night's Action: Mets Bested By the Best

  • Giants 2, Mets 0: Believe it or not, Tim Lincecum, the two-time defending National League Cy Young Award winner, had never recorded a win against the Mets entering Thursday's game. He has a win now. Lincecum threw a six-hit shutout, and R.A. Dickey was a tough-luck loser. The Mets did get Carlos Beltran back. He played center field and batted cleanup and went 1-for-4. Good sign: He tried steal a base after his only hit. Bad sign: He got thrown out. The Mets continue the four-game set (and 11-game road trip) Friday.

  • Liberty 75, Mystics 67: Cappie Pondexter scored 17 points as the Liberty beat the Mystics for the first time this season. Janel McCarville had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Leilani Mitchell tied a team record with seven steals. New York won for the fifth time in seven games.

the fact that dickey held up a credible pitching duel with lincecum was impressive enough.

Couple of times Gary and Keith commented that his running looked shaky, which is big cause for concern. If Beltran starts hitting, maybe this will be ok, but without strong legs it's hard to be much of a batsman.
