Princess Leia Meets Darth Vader On Subway

The first Princess Leia/Darth Vader scene from Star Wars performed right on the 6 train before an audience of confused, modern-day civilians? Yep, Improv Everywhere has returned with a new piece in their Theater of Prank repertoire, saying, "The white walls and sliding doors on the train reminded us of the rebel ship, and we thought it would be fun to see how people would react to a surprise appearance by the iconic characters." Check it out:

Anyone know where to pick up a copy of "Galactic Rebellion For Dummies: How To Form An Alliance & Subvert The Status Quo"? (Asking for a friend.)

alls i can say is I love that "Vader" was perfectly aligned with the car doors they were standing in front of. say what you will, but thats a sign of good planning. though it does further underscore how much this was not improv.... still when I it takes a minute before you know exactly where a trains doors open at a new station, i wonder if they're east siders or just meticulous

    Hella stupid

Also, isn't the whole point of 'improv' to be spontaneous, unscripted, and unplanned ? Everything they do is a scripted gag ? Old candid camera shows from 30 years ago are more clever than these knuckleheads.

  • joshuadog

Have these guys ever been creative, original or funny ?

  • mzungu

    yes.

  • Guest

Aren't you a bit tall to be a Stormtrooper?

  • row

Thought the same thing about the first guy who walked into the subway. NERD ALERT

  • ANGRYGOD11

This means Luke Skywalker must be in The Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy (South Staten Island).

  • tvroom

look at me!!! look at me!! I'm trying soooo hard to get attention!

  • jaycjay

Yep, obviously those guys in the stormtrooper and Vader outfits did this so everyone would see them. They'll probably now be swarmed by mobs on the street.

  • wingedearth

I hate how Improv Everywhere's videos always show the people laughing while the improv is happening. It ruins the whole effect. Edit that stuff out and it will be much funnier.

  • jaycjay

Disagree. The whole point of what their doing is in how people react to it. Instead of editing out the reaction shots, they could just shoot "pranks" on a soundstage and post the video, but how would that be funnier?

  • Yawn.

Darth Vader didn't and never will wear New Balance sneakers.

  • valeriob

    :)

  • hotstepper

Princess Leia is looking kinda busted these days.

  • Andre

    I'd hit it

According to Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything by Steven Levitt, he posits that legalized abortion has reduced crime because there are less unwanted children growing up in adverse conditions. That coupled with the fact that there has been a huge exodus of blacks to the southern states like atlanta and hispanics moving out of NY due to white gentrification and we get shit like this. 15 years ago these people would have got their ass beat.

  • laisla

I thought the quack-economics had been discredited?

  • jaycjay

You are correct. Not every aspect of the book, and not all of the ideas they've written about since (though they've done a lot that is seriously flawed), but that crime/abortion link thing has been trashed by pretty much every professional who examined it.

    For example:

  • Nellie

    Atlanta is not a state.

  • freddynyc

Personally, I don't see why they shouldn't get their ass beat today...

  • mctaco

I wish Stormtroopers would take away Gothamist commenters.

  • freddynyc

Wonderful - hipsters in their pursuit of an alternate art form...

  • whitecastlerock

Good stuff. I prefer this over kids selling stolen peanut M&Ms so they can stay out of trouble...

  • chuzzlewit

thank goodness this didn't happen on a subway car full of crabby fucks with sticks up their asses. that would've sucked.

  • Ed

I hope this was done in the early afternoon, on a weekday.

I can't think of another time when something like this wouldn't have been a complete nuisance for the passengers. Certainly not during rush hour (trains too crowded), on the weekend (trains too crowded), in the evening (passengers too tired to want to do something like this), or at night (the few drunks and night shift workers might like it, but do the improv people really want to wait that long for a train?).

I guess this comment just morphed into another comment on how the MTA sucks.

  • Nyctini11

Clock at around 57secs said it was 5:26 pm - 6train... too many happy people though, something aint right

  • RoboticInsides

I think it's pretty obvious by the room available that this was not done during rush hour.

  • It's okay, we've all been there.

And I love how the people were taking video/pics in the doorway had to yank their hands back in as the doors were closing.

  • MT

That was awesome! I love the people's reactions.

Where can I get one of those storm trooper suits?!?!?

  • jonathan

    Nope.. These are:

    http://www.newyorkcostumes.com/store/909866!36/S.W.+-+STORMTROOPER+SUPREME+DLX+ADULT+COSTUME

Though I don't recommend buying that. Search for the 501st for better quality, cheaper armor.

  • schadenfreudian mensch
  • John Del Signore

Huh, I never realized how much the Apocalypse Now score is derivative of Holst.

  • RoboticInsides

Damn it, I hope to be able to see their performances live at some point.

"Hey! LOOk AT ME! I SPEND X AMOUNT OF YEARS TRYING TO GET A PERFORMING ARTS DEGREE - CHECK OUT ME RECREATING A SCENE FROM A 70s SCI FI MOVIE ON A SUBWAY TRAIN!"

  • NewHCE

You hipster too cool for school complainers need to remove the collective stick from your butt.

  • NewHCE

    Lighten up.

  • Manitoba

I agree. I mean look at all of us - we're doing something so much more constructive and less wasteful with our time by posting here.

  • TimSPC

    Not very improv-y.

  • kafkask

When will Star Wars themed take-offs stop being funny? Are we on the cusp yet, at least?

  • NannyState

When hipsters figure out how to sell on Ebay.

  • Spudster

When did this happen? People are wearing coats (so we know it wasn't last week . . .)

  • bonu$baby

Not too bright in the age of terrorism.

  • Spirit of 76

If it didn't have the requisite blaster fire, then it's not an authentic re-creation.

Those stormtroopers should have NYPD stencilled on the back of their costumes, because NY cops... oh, never mind. If I have to explain it...

  • bleeckerite

This is why we can't have nice things.

  • negtive

Yes, I agree, because terrorists exist we should stop having fun.
