No Jail Time, No Probation for Bike Bodyslam Cop

2010_06_slam.jpg

Aaaand what did you expect? NY1 reports that Patrick Pogan, the former NYPD officer who was caught on tape in 2008 violently shoving a cyclist off his bike, seemingly without provocation, will not spend any time in jail for filing a false criminal complaint against cyclist Christopher Long.

Pogan also avoided having to serve any probation; according to NY1, he was given a conditional discharge. We'll update later with more details about the sentence.

Judge heard what kind of a dickwad the cyclist was and probably decided the cop had a point. You want to parade around in the street like an idiot, fine. Don't expect everyone to love it. Fuck 'em both.

  • sleeplessknight

    Good for him

  • whatsd

Well at least he didn't run over a vespa, killing the driver, who was a mother of three, like the guy the other day... "no crime, nothing to investigate"

From what I understand about ACD's if he stays out of trouble for 6 months the record gets sealed. Criticize Mass needs to ride by his house every day until he breaks and attacks again. Put his butt in jail

For all of you sofa-sitting, pablum puking, poodle walking idiots: How dare you criticize the actions of a man while you are afraid and unwilling to walk a day in his shoes. Instead of hiding behind a keyboard while you 'express your outrage', take the test, strap on a gunbelt, stand a foot post at the Tompkins Houses, TRY to fill the shoes of a New York CIty Police Officer. Then, and only then, do you have the right to criticize.

    Word!

    You're too funny!

Sofa-sitting? Do you stand on your sofa?

pablum puking? That was kind of original

poodle walking? Is that a crime too now? Even if you pick up after it?

Yes, I dare criticize someone who works for us the tax payers (they hate it when you say that), a civil servant who took an oath to protect and serve, when they are acting uncivilized and abusing the residents, but let's be clear no one here is criticizing an officer at a "foot post at the Tompkins Houses". We are however criticizing a rogue cop with a thug mentality who felt the need to assault a peaceful bike rider and lie about under oath.

To be honest, I don't even understand your logic. So you mean to say that because being an officer is a tough job then maybe we need to excuse the cops when they snap and beat up or assault citizens? Is that what you're trying to say? Really? That doesn't even apply here because this guy was only a cop for ten days before he did this.

I'm assuming you're a cop because only a cop can come up with twisted logic like that to justify an obviously illegal and wrong incident like this. But I know why you're so mad and said "hiding behind a keyboard while you 'express your outrage'" because you want to beat us up and arrest us for saying something like that against a fellow cop, don't you? If we criticized this cop in person, you'd kick our ass and arrest us, wouldn't you? You're just mad that, as much as you'd like to, you can't reach through your computer and abuse everyone of us.

But I will agree with you that being a cop is tough and not everyone is cut out for it but I also think that any cop that can't handle the pressure of being a cop should just quit immediately and let someone more capable take the job. They obviously knew what they were getting into and if they choose to continue to do the job, even if that means a foot post at the Tompkins Houses, we expect them to do their job in a "Courteous, Professional and Respectful" manner, just like it says on the side of their squad cars.

    Kudos.

So another NYPD thug lowlife criminal gets off despite assaulting a citizen and falsifying a police report? I guess one has to kill an entire family while speeding drunk and high in order to raise an eyebrow in the corrupt NYPD.

  • eugloven

You have GOT to be kidding me!!! Seriously??? SERIOUSLY??? This is why sooo many people are not reporting their NYPD wrongful treatment incidents... because NOTHING happens!

  • John L

No you're wrong once you once you report, or try to report (because many times they'll just give you the run around anyway), an officer for abuse you then become target within that precinct, meaning that now the accused officer's buddies will make extra rounds by your home to try to find a reason to arrest you either discredit you or to use it as bargaining chip so you will drop your charges. If you so much as jaywalk they will be all over you and by the time they're through it won't be for just jaywalking. Trust me, I've seen it happen. That's also part of the cops omerta, "The Blue Wall of Silence" to protect fellow officers at all cost.

They even go after their own if an officer dares go against another

I wonder what the sentence would have been had someone shoved a cop off a bicycle like that. One would have to think it would be more than "you're fired"....

  • John L

Cops can do anything and everything they want in this city and get away with, no matter how horrific or tragic or if there's a hundred witnesses or video tape to prove it, none of that matters, they will get away with it.

We must learn to accept this truth, the NYPD IS ABOVE THE LAW!

This "officer" was only on the force for two weeks before he felt the need to tackle a cyclist without provocation. Even more amazingly is the fact that he did this in the middle of Times Square at a high profile event that he knew was being covered by the media. Can you imagine what he would do on a dark, lonely street in Brooklyn on one of these "Stop and Frisk" operations? I'm just bringing this up for people that think that if you comply with the officers you won't have a problem but some of these officers really, really have problems.

  • Patrick Pogan

You all should be arrested for slandering my name and honor. I became a cop to protect this city from scum bags, like the people who ride bikes. All you do is take their side. How can you tell what happened in the video? You were not there.

We need to rid this city of bicyclists. They disturb the peace for the car owners and they don't pay taxes because they don't have jobs or cars.

Christopher Long ruined my career when he tried to hit me with his bike. I'd like to see him try to become a cop. Police Cadet training takes a real man.

When I find that punk - I am gonna do more than throw him off his bike. I'm free bitches! I don't need a badge to bring justice to this city.

  • mistermarkdavis

Slander is a civil matter. Even a rookie cop would know that.

On top of that slander is for spoken comments. Liable is for written comments.

This free legal advice comes from a cyclist that pays federal, state, and city taxes.

    Obvious Troll is obvious.

Somewhere in here is a point of view. I think. Nice disguise tho, I wish I could see the fake curled lip. The real Pogan is shitfaced drunk w/ his cop buddies right now wondering what route he should drive home.

  • Patrick Pogan

All of my cop friends have abandoned me. My friends don't call me anymore. I'm getting pretty shit faced, but I'm doing it alone. My life has been ruined by punks. You happy now?

  • dadoc

No way you're a cop. You can spell and know where the shift key is :)

  • JacqueMehoff

actually mr. pogan, Long was a veteran. much tougher than the NYPD.
