The Secret of In-N-Out Burger Finally Revealed?!

071210innout.jpg
Say that it's so!
April is the cruelest month, beginning with a hoax from College Humor that west coast favorite In-N-Out burger was finally making its way to New York. It wasn't meant to be, but could that mouth-watering flavor already be in the city? Chef Josh Capon of Lure Fishbar thinks he managed to crack their code.

Capon said he sneaked into the kitchen at a Vegas In-N-Out while his burger was being made, hanging around long enough to learn some tricks and apply them to the "Lure Style" cheeseburger (a play on In-N-Out's famous "Animal Style" dishes?). He says the key is to spread some Dijon mustard on the patty while it's on the grill, which enhances the flavor of the beef. That's it? We've contacted In-N-out to see if this guy is for real, and will let you know if they get back to us. However, they say they normally don't comment on these sort of things, so the verdict might be up to anyone with enough cash to fly out west for a taste test.

In other burger news, chain Carl's Jr. is testing out a foot-long cheeseburger in some of their restaurants. Going for just $4 at a location in Santa Ana, it's reportedly not as impressive as it seems, consisting of three patties on a hoagie-style bun. One customer said, “It looked interesting until I took a bite. It perfectly matched my low expectations of Carl’s Jr." Quick, somebody dare KFC to make a foot-long Double Down.

Until you guys try the BLACK SHACK Burger you don't know what THE BEST BURGER is!

My favorite: the WESTERN- with fried onions, bacon and cheese added is my favorite.

Once I found Black Shack I have not even looked back at shake shack....

Black Shack- the opposite of White Castle.

    Quality.nomnomnomnomnom!

.....it is on Lexington ave between 38th and 39th....

This East Coast dude is a fan of In-n-Out.

Closest thing to In 'N Out here is Blue 9 on 2nd Avenue. Check out their history, too. It's a homage to, rip-off, the SoCal chain. That said, if you get nostalgic, grab a burger there.

  • Gothamist_Cynic

BLue 9 tastes like shit sorry. They're not even in the same league as In N Out.

  • airtech1

Dude. I'm not saying they ARE In 'N Out by any means. I just know that the owners are SoCal natives who confess to ripping off the In N' Out "formula" with a slight twist. Obviously, the twist ain't good enough.

D'angelo's footlong cheeseburger sub with ketchup, mayo, hots and lettuce. Nearest location is 50 miles on rt. 95.

In-n-Out Burgers are grilled by kids making $11.50 an hour. I don't think it takes high-level espionage to get the recipe.

Fuck that, give me a Carl's Jr.

  • Polite New Yorker

This calls for a trip to White Castle. I shall likely dine there this evening before my appointment with Eddie at Madison Square Garden.

For your sake I hope the WC meal stays in your belly until at least 2 Minutes to Midnight, or else you may have to make a Run To The Hills and miss the encores.

Seriously, enjoy the show. I only hope I am not sitting behind you, so I can enjoy it as well.

i can think of a number of californian expats (myself included) who would be willing to referee.

He just figured this out? Besides being incredibly obvious upon visual inspection the mustard grilling "secret" is all over the internet including Wikipedia.

  • Lost in Space

It's actually even mentioned on In'N'Out's web site.

  • BillyShears

Meh, In 'n' Out is garbage, and I say that having lived in CA for quite some time.

  • shampoomohawk

    Exactly how long is food?

  • tsk_tsk_tsk
