New App Brings Delivery To Central Park

71110fry.jpg Earlier today, the Times tried to kick off a new Manhattan-Brooklyn battle, this time over whether Central or Prospect Park is the superior park. Really, there's nothing better than spending a lazy summer day in either park. Having said that...iPhone offers a pretty compelling argument as to why Central Park is superior: you can now order delivery there!

A new free iPhone application, CityMint, offers to deliver meals to Central Park from seven restaurants bordering the park, with free delivery, between noon and 7 pm on weekends through Labor Day. The app comes with a GPS add-on, which allows deliverymen to pintpoint where you are, avoiding the hassle of you trying to describe your location ("near the big rock?"). Restaurants who have signed on so far include Francesco's Pizzeria and Restaurant, Aroma Espresso Bar, China Fun, Pinkberry and Big Nick's Burger Joint and Pizza Joint. Runner/project manager Tim Diamond is hoping they can maintain a 30-to-40-minute delivery time, and weighed in on why they chose Central Park to launch the program: "It's where people congregate, and it's where people are actually going to in the summer - when they're not hiding in movie theaters."

I am so proud I lived to see the day this life-changing technology come to fruition. *wipes away tear*

Even the creators of both parks agree that prospect park is a better park. so other words the park in manhattan sucks.

How is Prospect park better than Central Park?!?!? it has a nicer zoo with more polar bears? It has a bigger lake with more gondolas and paddle boats? It has a funkier roller dance party? It has Al Pacino in more free outdoor Shakespere performances? It has a better ice rink? That turns into an amusement park in the summer?

Oh wait... Prospect park has none of those things.

Did I mention the ice rink? Prospect Park also has a better ice rink (Wollman Rink).

  • Cannibal

    but the roller dance party?

  • wingedearth

Actually, Prospect Park does have a nicer zoo, and a nice lake with paddle boats, and a nice Audubon Center Boathouse, a carousel, horseback riding and tennis courts, and a lot more. And Al Pacino isn't there stinking up the park. And here's a list of some of the people that will be in Prospect Park this summer:

I'm pretty sure I would've been all about this today, except the world cup was such a great reason to start drinking at 2... next weekend Citymint.... next weekend...

  • I really prefer the serendipitous encounters w/ the guy selling beers out of his backpack on a summer evening. There's no app for that guy, which is why he is awesome.

What is there to compare? Central park is superior in every single way period
