Yesterday, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn, Queens) married Huma Abedin, the longtime aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Via Politico, Weiner's office released these details:
Today, Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner, surrounded by their family and friends, were married in the garden at Oheka Castle in Huntington, L.I.

The bride wore a gown designed by her good friend Oscar de la Renta.

Bryan Rafanelli oversaw the design and plan of the wedding celebration. The ceremony was officiated by President William Jefferson Clinton.

Apparently former President Clinton had the power to officiate (his spokesman didn't explain). According to the Daily News' source, Bubba was in fine form: "Clinton jokingly said that marrying a politician can be tough because it's 'easy to distrust them, whatever their religion,' a source told the Daily News." Clinton also "spoke of how they met and how she at first rejected but that his determination would not let up," the source said.

Noting how Weiner is Jewish and Abdein is Muslim, the Yeshiva World News headline was "Christian President Marries Jewish Congressman to Moslem Political Aide on Shabbos." And, for you to file away as useless information, Oheka Castle is where Kevin Jonas got married last December.

I wish them all the best, may they have a happy life together, as should all. Too tired to seek other pics, but serioulsy, what is up with her anatomy: upper thoracic kyphosis, minimal AP diameter, right angle at the chest wall/breast line, but normal meaty arms, meaning not anorexia. Whatever, happy that two people of different beliefs put all aside for love and each other, even though he's still a Weiner.

  • wow 14th street

I'm still waiting for the promised Weiner-Obama

"public option" in our health care..... Nah.

Bill Clinton was always the best at bringing the Jews and Muslims together.

Could someone please explain how Clinton is allowed to officiate at a marriage? We can skip the obvious partisan sniping on this one - I'm just genuinely curious about how he gets to do this. Did he send away for one of the Universal Life Church qualifications?

  • Politburo

They could have gone before a judge the day before, or there could have been a judge in attendance who signed. See subdivision 4 of the law you linked to.

He was the f***ing president for crying out loud. At one time, he could have annihilated the entire world if he so chose. Once you've been given that power, you can also officiate at weddings.

Um, yeah, it's nice that he used to have his finger on The Button or whatever, but we have laws in New York State saying who is qualified to preside over a marriage. "Former president" or "Former governor of Arkansas" or "husband of the former US Senator"? Not on that list. Retired housing court judge? Yes. Retired President? Nope.

    Here's the list:

  • Not to mention, he was also disbarred by both the State of Arkansas and the Supreme Court:(http://www.famguardian.org/Sub...
