When Animal Cruelty Stems From Idiocy

maltesedog0710.jpg The Bronx man who baked his Maltese dog to death after leaving him in his 140-degree van earlier this week (he now faces a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge) had been cooling off at the Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park pool for more than an hour when his dog was spotted by a passerby. According to the Daily News, he told police, "there should have been a public service announcement, someone should have warned us." Okay everyone, consider this your warning: leaving dogs (and babies!) in cars with the windows rolled up during a heatwave will most likely lead to death.

He talks like he would have actually paid attention if there had been a public service announcement. There usually are, at least something along the lines of "watch out it's hot make sure your kids/pets/elderly relatives have plenty of water & air" - it's always mentioned whenever they talk about heat waves on the news that old people die in 90+ degree weather, at least. plus isn't there a band called "dogs die in hot cars" ? or am i making that up

At least he's unable to acquire/kill another dog while he's in jail. isn't some sort of license required to own a dog in NYC? attach a simple quiz to the licensing process to see if the guy can tell a dog from a casserole & maybe Animal Control wouldn't end up with 12 calls a day about cooked dogs.

Maybe he will forget to breathe. I haven't seen a PSA about that.

theres plenty of youtubey videos of people microwaving live dogs on the internet, go ahead and google it.

its usually done for kicks in third world countries, some sites have hundreds of videos devoted to it but you have to pay a monthly fee for access.

  • Nyctini11

    3rd world countries have microwaves?

    Whoa ! Baked Dog .

Won't enter the fray above. This guy abused by omission. Stupid, careless, yeah. Jailtime would be expensive and counterprodutive. A good stint at community service involving animal care would be appropriate, cost effective, and be better for animals. If he has kids, CPS should do a looksee. While I think the proposed "Animal Abuser Registry" is a bit much and would be subject to abuse and interpretation, ther are some people who should just not own pets. Kids die in cars, drown in pools, fall out windows and lose their lives due to the stupidity and inattentivness of their caregivers all the time. The rule should just be that stupid people should not be in a position of responsibility over anything that cannot rescue or protect itself, grannies and students includued.

the big majority of this planet human inhabitants are IDIOTS!

If we can not consider progress as the the existance of a INTELLIGENT and EDUCATED critical mass, will have nothing less than the rule of the stupid!

  • handsomedevil

indeed dogs are smarter and better than a lot of people

    Schmuck.

I agree jailing him makes no sense, and service in a shelter would serve him and the community much more.

The past couple days have been rough walking my dog. I had to actually carry the dude across the street in 102 degrees because the pavement was too hot on his feet. (we stick strictly to shade now) I'm sure I looked insane but he's my best friend, and luckily only 35 pounds.

I just crack the back window. He's usually fine. One time he was almost passed out but was still happy to see me return. Dogs are really stupid sometimes. My old dog had an unfortunate "accident" and died. I just dug a hole and told everyone it ran away.

  • robingee

Oh that Himmler. So edgy and trouble-causing!

  • Amanda Harletsch

there is nothing more pathetic than somebody that uses cruelty as their "intellectual advantage"

Keep the gratuitous display of idiocy Dead Himmler!

  • handsomedevil

why is it when there is a story about animals you always appear and make up these ridiculous lies you dont even have a dog do you

  • Dead Himmler

I get a new dog every couple of years to replace the old one.

  • handsomedevil

the best thing about dogs is that they are not evil unlike you

  • youngpro

'evil'...coming from the devil, that might be a compliment.

  • kazubes

    Tell that to Marlene Fils-Aime

  • militza

    don't be such a poophead!

I believe you cannot fully appreciate the awesomeness that is a dog.

they're just like us... flawed. it is a trait we all share.
