[UPDATE BELOW] As of 1 p.m., the mercury hit 100 in Central Park, making today the hottest day in NYC since August of 2001. (According to NY1, it's currently 98 at LGA and JFK, and CBS2 reports that the UV Index is at 10, meaning you can get sunburned in just 10 minutes.) The overall record for Central Park is 101, set in 1999. Will the blackouts move beyond the Bronx? And will NYC shatter its past electrical power demand record?

For reference, the average high for July 6th is only 83. So today's abnormally stinking heat proves global warming is true after all, at least until winter comes and debunks "climate change" all over again!

UPDATE 2:32 p.m.: We did it, America! As of 2:22 p.m., the temperature hit 102 degrees, breaking the old record of 101 set in 1999. According to the AccuWeather "RealFeel," it actually feels like 109! Now the only records left to break are the highest all-time temp record of 106, set back on July 9th 1936, and the Con Ed record measured in megawatts... so turn up the Freedom Rock and the A.C.!

but it's kinda breezy and not humid. today was not half as bad as the 88 degrees and 90% humidity days that are coming...

Why is Newark always 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the Tri-State area? Is that where all the heat is coming from?

  • Joe Schumacher

Newark's usually warmer because it is further from the cooling effect of the ocean.

Today, however, they had a calibration problem with the official temperature sensor. Their max temperature was adjusted down to 103 based on an FAA thermometer.

let me guess... no air conditioning?

  • Cranky Old Man

It's not about the daytime high, it's the overnight 'low' thats the bigger problem. When the temperature only 'goes down' to the upper 80's at night, that's the true heat related misery. Unless you have A/C you are not going to sleep, even with a fan.
