Paterson Opposes Paperless Tickets

070310scalping.jpg Governor Paterson may have The Boss on his back after signing a bill which requires entertainment venues to offer paper tickets as well as a paperless ticketing option. Musicians like Bruce Springsteen say paperless ticketing cuts down on scalpers, since ticket buyers must present their credit card and ID to retrieve them. But Paterson says it keeps people from being able to present tickets as gifts. Madison Square Garden is worried that artists like Springsteen and Miley Cyrus may refuse to play New York without a paperless ticketing system. Don't forsake us, Miley!

If Almost Famous had been made during the paperless ticket era, that opening sequence would kind of suck.

Paperless ticketing would just solidify Ticketmaster's monopoly.

Not only Ticketmaster's but the artists themselves. They know a certain % of folks is willing to pay $1000 to see their favorite band, so rather than allowing scalpers to get a cut of it, they'll start selling some $1000 seats and keep it.

And if you're not a scalper and buy tickets to a show and you can't make it, fuck you, you're a criminal, we keep your money and no one sees the show.

There's been times I've gone to concerts with friends, and met up with them at the show. I dont' like paperless tickets only. I also like to keep the stubs from concerts. I have some going back over 10 years.
