  • Mets 5 Washington 3: Jon Niese kept up his stellar pitching with seven innings of one-run ball. Niese struck out eight batters and added a RBI single. Alex Cora had the big hit, driving in three runs with a triple in the fourth. Ike Davis had a RBI and David Wright added three hits. Things got interesting in the 9th when K-Rod gave up back-to-back singles to cut the game to 5-3, but he picked off Roger Bernadina from second to end the game.

  • Toronto 6 Yankees 1 (11 innings): AJ Burnett pitched well with Dave Eiland back as pitching coach, but Joba blew a 1-0 lead and David Robertson and Chan Ho Park imploded in the 11th. The Yankees offense had numerous chances to build on a 1-0 lead, but they failed to do so.

The "Save" of the Mets game last night ought to go to Tejeda for calling the play the threw out the Nats runner. Great baseball sense and savvy by the 20 year old.

The Yankees need to clean out their bullpen, starting with Joba. He will never be the set-up man the Yankees are praying for, nor will he be the new Mariano. His ERA is over 5 and the Yankees close their eyes and wish for a miracle every time he takes the mound. There must be a team who will take a Joba and, perhaps, a David Robertson or Damaso Marte, in return for a few promising young relievers.
