Video: Burn Williamsburg, Burn

A two alarm fire tore through a 4-story building in Williamsburg this morning. Nobody was injured, and ordinarily this probably wouldn't merit mention, but this video of the fire is pretty intense:

The building is located on Devoe between Leonard and Lorimer, and right behind an apartment occupied by Brian Ries, who writes for Free Williamsburg. He liveblogged the fire, and said, "Upstairs neighbor can see a burned out jeep in the lot next to the library, directly alongside the wall where the fire started in the building…Everybody is safe according to the FDNY guys. Can’t ask for a much better turnout than that." (Though it would have kicked the video up a notch if the building at least had some M80s inside.) The FDNY put it out in 18 minutes, according to Ries.

Greg Kelly on Fox 5 referred to the location as "Rlaph Kramden's old neighborhood." Um... ok?

  • nyny1111

What states are these "hipsters" from?

  • manboobs
  • NannyState

    Ahh, more "Williamsburg Sunshine"...

  • SatelliteTimes

Yeah this guy is a HACK. and apparently has access to the personal info from your profile, such as my EMAIL address. Way to go Gothamist!

  • theLtrain

    Disturbing.

  • SatelliteTimes

Indeed. I tried to read to read the hack's blog, so that I could insultingly use his material against him, but it was far too painful to read.

Have a nice weekend, LOSER. Hope your apartment doesn't burn down!

  • theLtrain

My comments keep getting deleted, so uhh.. John Del Signore is a talentless, boring, terrible hack.

Maybe 30 words of each Gothamist post aren't pastes from another website...and they're usually just snarky comments relating to the story...he can't even do that correctly?

Someone fire this idiot if you actually pay him...

  • SatelliteTimes

Nice, I just received 3 links to the unsubscribe page for gothamist from this address:

    info@gothamistllc.com

Classy. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

  • theLtrain

Wonder what you can expect to take that buildings place...

  • SatelliteTimes

Agreed. I feel awful watching that video. I don't even wish that kind of thing on my own enemies. Oh wait, I don't even have any real enemies, because I'm not a PRICK like the writer!

Notice the tame headline about the fires in Bushwick? Yeah, sure, no hipsters there, right? WRONG! Gothamist writers all moved on to an urban dream & gaining their street cred.

  • ides_of_march

Well, somebody is newly homeless and a lot of their valued possessions burnt to a crisp no doubt. I'm sure if they could get to their pc they'd enjoy the cute headline too. A few M-80's exploding up the writer's backside, now that would have been funny.

  • SatelliteTimes

Yeah, that's a tasteless headline. I bet if you could afford to live in Williamsburg, you would. Besides, everyone knows that the hipsters don't want to live in Williamsburg anymore (lest they be called "hipsters") and that they have all moved on to gain their "cred" in Bushwick & Bed Stuy. Get with the times. Now it's all weekenders & stroller pushers. the dodgeball douches all live in the big bad B's. Even they don't deserve to burn. Do you live in Bushwick, or Bed Stuy?

  • TheKlaus

I live directly behind it on Powers. What a horrible spectacle. And the smell. Yikes.

  • Potty Boy

I apologize, JDS. I thought you were referring to the warehouse fire this a.m. A brief read of the blog would reveal my jumping to a conclusion. *takes foot out of mouth*

  • weenie

I agree, the headline is one of the more thoughtless ones posted on this site and you should consider the seriousness of the incident. also, the fact that it was in Bushwick... come on. at least get the 'hood right. glad to read that everybody made it out ok.

  • lampshades

I still find the headline tasteless. Does he know that no one was harmed? I live on the street and they have shut down it down and there are ambulances everywhere, even hours after the fire stopped. There were families huddled on the street crying this morning and many brave firefighters working hard to tame and control this fire. A hardworking family's home was destroyed and JDS just thinks that it is another reason to crack a joke about LOL Billyburg Sux just because a few hipsters live in the area.

Stupidly dumb. I expected better from you JDS.

  • vino

FYI that fire was in Bushwick.

  • Potty Boy

JDS, I normally do not consider myself unduly sensitive. Your headline "Burn Williamsburg, Burn" makes light of an incident that a brave bunch of firefighters risked their lives and many hours to tame. I think you probably intended another angle, but I found it just a bit tasteless.
