Dog Beater Pleads Guilty, Avoids Jail

The Morningside Heights woman who beat her Pomeranian pup Sparky plead guilty and won't be able to own another pet for five years, in return for her no-jail plea deal. Tiara Davis was caught on surveillance video beating her dog in the elevator of the Grant Houses, and in February her statements to the police were read in court—she had told them: "I wasn't like I was killing him or anything like that. I mean I wasn't gonna really hurt him." The video (below) is disturbing, and the incident left the dog with bruises and possible liver damage—he was later put up for adoption.

According to the NY Post, she will also perform 100 hours of community service and attend anger management classes. In court today, the judge expressed his own anger about the case, saying: "Right now, I have a jury out on a murder-one case. You're taking up valuable Supreme Court time. I really don't understand the use of the grand jury and the supreme court. I'm not saying this court doesn't take the abuse of animals seriously. But so does the criminal court—and that's where this case belonged as a misdemeanor."

Someone who beats a dog is much more likely to beat (or do worse things) to a human-- so regardless of your views on the importance of dogs, animal abuse should be taken very seriously.

  • freddynyc

Yes, your hard earned tax dollars are used to feed and clothe that ape...

  • Boogie Down

So, does this piece of shit get to continue living in PUBLICLY-FUNDED housing? It must be nice to live a life without consequence, which seems to be a running theme in NYCHA properties.

  • potsmoker

    Just a Dog

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."

    ...

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just don't understand."

  • cronegirl

    +1 very eloquent

  • Jim

We already know your only friends are animals...you don't need to remind us.

  • Dead Himmler

But it is just a dog.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

I hope she is fired and kicked out of her projects.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Dog has possible liver damage because of the beating. This judge and asshole potsmoker should be locked in a cell with this bythch. I hope thet fire her and kick get out of the projects.

  • potsmoker

really stupid, if she went to the vet and asked for euthanasia on demand, the bet would charge her a fee and kill the dog no questions asked in the name of $$$.

you fools beleive that this woman committed some heinous crime, but even if she went to the pound and did an owner surrender, they'd take the dog again no questions asked and probably euthanize it within 7 days.

they charged her with a felony, used a grand jury, wasted courts time and ended up pleading to a violation which is equal to a parking ticket.

all you fools can claim that she should get the max etc etc but if they corrupt criminal justice system charges everyone who smacked their cat or kicked a dog the entire system would collapse and youd end up having tons of real criminal cases being thrown out because theres not enough jurors or time to try and convict real criminals in a speedy trial...suckers

  • LaliP

Euthanasia is HUMANE. The vets don't beat an animal to death.

This woman was intentionally cruel. I think she should serve jail time and NEVER be allowed to be near any animal ever again. Unless said "animal" are rats gnawing at her face while she sleeps in a cold and dark prison cell.

  • Matthew

Shut up, stoner asshole. Maybe someone bigger and stronger than you will one day randomly decide to beat you in an elevator, then think about what is or isn't a crime. Idiot.

  • Nyctini11

If it was a child it would be a crime, right? I'm not saying a grand jury was necessary, i'm just saying she's f'ing b!tch, and i pray her name find it's way to some black list of people who should NEVER be allowed to own pets. Completely unnecessary cruelty. If you can watch a video like that and know that she beat the dog into unconsciousness and thinks she deserves no punishment, well then, i hope you too never have a pet.

  • handsomedevil

somebody should kick that judge in the liver

  • Nyctini11

F*CKING B!TCH. I pray one day, you find a nice man, who treats you just as good.

  • Mr Mel

Then he wouldn't be such a nice man.
