All Aboard The Target Train

The Target ad currently adorning to the 6 train certainly isn't the first time we've seen subway wrap ads (back in 2008 the History Channel took over the 42nd Street shuttle). However, NYC the Blog notes this is the "first ever full length train completely wrapped in advertising to run on the New York City subway system." Don't expect a new look once you step inside, though—the wrapping is just on the outside (as opposed the the Holland shuttle which gave the train's interior a makeover).

The ad will generate $250,000 in revenue for the MTA, and will run for six weeks to promote the new Target in East Harlem opening next month—check out a few more photos at Second Ave. Sagas. We're like thisclose to having IKEA pay to put couches underground.

looks dope. glad to see they gave their designers liberties.

If this were a Walmart train y'all would be having seizures, even though they're basically the same store.

  • dwayno

lol, definitely not the same. target actually provides healthcare and fare wages for their employees. i'd say they're on par with IKEA. you should watch "walmart: the high cost of low price" www.walmartmovie.com

I'd rather pay extra (and judging by how low MTA advertising revenue is, it would not be much) to not be bombarded by advertising at the station entrances, in the stations, inside the trains AND outside the trains.

To me, advertising is like visual buzzing and honking.

I think most people would prefer an ad-wrapped train that runs on time than a naked one that has terrible service. The problem, though, is MTA's lack of managing skills. All the money raised by ad revenue would quickly disappear into some vortex.

  • A no brainer. The MTA should wrap all its cars (inside and out) to generate money...

I wonder if the MTA will start doing this for LIRR and Metro-North trains too.

    LOL!

looks pretty cool, but it's gonna be a bummer to see these trains along the elevated, outdoor tracks.

I'd totally ride the Target train, or whoever else wants to give the MTA a crapload of money for advertising.
