Yi-Joo Kwon Finishes Cross Country Run for Diabetes

062610kwon.jpg Queens resident Yi-Joo Kwon, 64, crossed his finish line in front of the UN yesterday after running 3,200 miles across country to raise awareness for diabetes. Nicknamed "Flushing's Gump," Kwon ran across 15 states in 95 days without aid of a GPS device—he just kept a piece of paper telling him where to go. After finishing his journey, he told the Daily News, "The reason I was able to finish this cross-country run is because I was thinking of everyone here supporting me." Kwon began running marathons just 10 years ago, and has since finished 100 of them.

Wow, he looks quite muscular for a 64 year old.

"without aid of a GPS device—he just kept a piece of paper telling him where to go."

Not to detract from what this guy did (which is, of course, TOTALLY AMAZING), but why do we feel the need to be tethered to our toys all the time? So he didn't have a GPS - it wasn't like he was traveling across the backcountry ("the bush") of Canada - he was on well-marked roads and did his homework by planning out his route in advance... Why do we find it so amazing that he wasn't checking his frickin' iphone every 4 seconds?

Yeah and people complain about waiting on long lines for a few days for their new fucking Iphone. This guy is AMAZING. What a feat.
