Woman Attacked By Dogs Takes $750K Settlement

2010_06_settle.jpg A Queens woman who was suing the city for $3 million, because she was attacked by wild, stray dogs in 2001, accepted a $750,000 settlement. Marlene Fils-Aime was injured when trying to rescue Lev Lieverman who was being attacked by two Rottweilers, a pit bull and two mutts on December 26th, 2001. The dogs, which tore off Liberman's ears and part of his scalp and left him legally blind, were attracted to city-owned vacant lots at Beach 68th Street in Far Rockaway, which were over-grown and full of garbage. After community complaints, city initially removed the dogs, but then returned them to a homeless man right before the attack. Fils-Aime's lawyer said, "She's a tough, focused woman. "She's a little hyper about dogs and she doesn't want to go anywhere near the boardwalk."

It's the neighborhoods fault for the trash, probably. It's the city's fault for not cleaning up the trash, partially. It's the homeless guys fault for having the dogs, mostly. It's all of our faults for letting dangerous animals be owned without limits, entirely.

it is the fault of all the stable middle class people who have capasaty to adopt a dog but dont they could have taken these dogs off the street

cheaper to settle than fight. Thats why the city settles so many of these lawsuits, even if they aren't responsible.

It's the city's fault for leaving out garbage that made dogs act like dogs!

Imagine that. Animals acting like animals.

its been established that the city was at fault for returning a pack of dogs to a homeless man!!!

she was only scarred on the left arm, now we know what the guy who lost his scalp, ear and blinded in both eyes will get,,,way the heck more than 750K!!!!

im all for it, bankrupt the city, better judgement and prevention will reap more results than negligence and big payouts, the only way to solve this problem is to make the payouts come from gloombergs fat wallet, that penny pinchin wierdo will then revamp the city in order to keep his grimey hands on every nickel.
