US's Afghanistan Commander Gen. McChrystal Resigns

After an incredibly candid interview with Rolling Stone, General McChrystal, who headed the U.S.'s war efforts in Afghanistan, offered his resignation today (as predicted) and President Obama accepted it. McChrystal was critical of the administration's actions in the interview (Rolling Stone's journalist spent a lot of time with the general, partly thanks to the ash-spewing Icelandic volcano) and he admitted to White House officials that he "compromised the mission." Now General David Petraeus, the head of Central Command, will take over. Last December, Obama said that he wanted to start withdrawing by July 2011.

obama is "surging" troops into afghanistan (slowly) but promises to start withdrawing them next july, and mchrystal travels for weeks at a time with a writer from rolling stone because he enjoys the attention

McChrystal is the guy that Obama handpicked to lead the war. Petraeus is the guy that Senator Obama excoriated in 2007 when Obama was belittling and fighting against the surge in Iraq. Obama is now asking for all to stand in common purpose. Funny, how Senator and Candidate Obama never gave a rat's ass about common purpose.

Also funny is how Moveon.org has quickly gotten rid of their General Betrayus web page. What? Petraeus is now a hero because he's been asked to save Obama's ass?
