An MTA Bridges and Tunnels division officer shot a man during a fight that ensued after a car accident on the Major Deegan yesterday morning. Officer Edward Aiken was on his way to work at Randall's Island when he was rear-ended by another car in the South Bronx, causing his car to hit a guardrail. A heated argument led to fisticuffs, and Aiken was outnumbered by the four passengers in the other vehicle. So he introduced them to his little friend.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters yesterday that Aiken was being beaten on the ground when he discharged his firearm nine times. The alleged assailants scattered, but one round hit an unidentified man who subsequently walked into Harlem Hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken into custody there, and the three other men are being questioned, but haven't been charged.

As for Aiken, he sustained head trauma and injuries to his knee, but was released from a local hospital yesterday, City Room reports.

Hmm, fired or suspended with pay? Hmm. Hmmmm.

  • Spirit of 76

Nine shots and only one non-lethal hit. Somebody needs to visit the firing range more often.

But seriously, waiting for some gun nuts to tell us again how it would be so much safer if everybody had a gun. I would just love being on a hair trigger (pun intended) wondering if the next guy I argue with might go ballistic and quick-draw on me.

Why isn't dear old Tnuc commenting here??

im pretty sure it will come out that the shot man was the driver and was charged with some vehicular accident offense.

wonder why the other guys were not charged?

maybe something to do with the fact that initial news reports showed the car's windsheild splattered with bulletholes which contradicts the story about some cop shooting from the ground after a beatdown.

most likely the MTA officer went nuts and 4 guys foudn themselves in a scuffle with a armed man who didnt keep his comiposure after a minor fender bender and failed to identify himself and a cop.

the story as stated itself is not plausible, how the heck do you get rear-ended and then end up getting beaten by the passengers of the car that hit you??? maybe it had something to do with his temper and attitude and the four guys werent having it, sounds more than entirely plausible. who causes an accident then stops and beats the victim, usually its the other way around? guy gets hit and becomes enraged.

wait for the real facts to come out.

"wonder why the other guys were not charged?"

Nothing at all can be inferred by that. There are reportedly three guys being questioned. That mean that they're even known yet to be the right people. And "were not charged" is not "will not be charged."

You're right, we should wait for the facts to come out. But "the other three guys were not charged" is not a fact.

  • YouWillLearn

You are a loser, internet piece of shit. If someone rear ends someone, they could easily get mad that the person stopped short. And if the guy who got hit gets out and starts yelling at the guy who hit him, that is where a fight may start. You DUMB INTERNET FUCK.

  • potsmoker

ok, so your saying its reasonable that the guy who does the rear ending is more likely to stop and argue and fight...but if i say that the guy who got rearended started it, im an internet f*ck loser internet piece of sh*t, that doesnt make sense.

I already stated that the news reports showed a car with multiple bullet holes in the widsheild.

how does that happen with a guy on the ground getting beaten?

  • tgg001

And then that bully from 8th grade and the IRS and my loud neighbor and all the other people for "making my life suck" are behind all bad things...

    Good morning self delusion!

  • potsmoker

self delusion is beleiving everything the nypd, the media and Pat Lynch, the ny post and the ny dailynews tells you.

his favorite quote is 'wait until the facts come out'

i repeat the same line and im called delusional?

  • longacre

MTA police = nothing to do with NYPD nor Pat Lynch

  • JenChungsNewBra

The thugs, not so tough after all.

Still, no love for the NYPD.

  • jaycjay

    This guy isn't NYPD.

  • Uh, well-- wait. If a guy, any guy, is on the ground being beaten by four other people, I'm...I'm pretty sure that is a situation where "I shot him in self defense" starts to sound really plausible.

  • LeLY

    9 times? I don't remember him firing 9 times.

I wonder if anyone will get the reference.

    take it easy, Ed Rooney.
