Marty Markowitz Will Strip To Shorts If City Doesn't Open Pool

061710marty1.jpg Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is bringing out the big guns Sunday morning to protest the city's closure of the "Double-D" public pool in Gowanus because of budget constraints. Joined by protesters and city council members, Markowitz will appear at the pool in broad daylight wearing nothing but a swim suit, presumably as a form of radical direct action protest. His press officer says, "Don’t worry, no Speedo!" But if the city doesn't agree to spend the $200,000 to open the pool—which is in walking distance to the Gowanus and Wyckoff Gardens public housing projects—we suspect Markowitz will surely take this thing to the next level. Please, Bloomberg, give the man whatever he wants.

Markowitz will be breaking out his very own "Double Ds" in protest. Nice.

Double-D is a great facility, smaller than Red Hook, and thus less crowded, good atmosphere. Bring it back! Go gettum, Marty!

    I think he's hilarious.

He seems like he'll do anything for Brooklyn.

I don't know the whole situation but it sounds like there are lot of people nearby who could use some pool time.

Keep the kids off the streets and all.

One of new york city's most annoying politicians, along with Christine Quinn

  • Powerhugs

He is certainly over the top but he is very popular in Brooklyn and all he is doing is helping out people in his community...I don't find that annoying but zealously using his generally powerless position as borough president to get in your face to the city council..Hes a good guy!!!

  • gerf

The fact that his position is powerless is exactly why it needs to be eliminated, along with all of the other borough president positions as well as the public advocate.

Do you know these people are making well over $150,000 a year each, plus a car and driver?

    Absurd

Yes why don't we tear down the Brooklyn Borough Hall as well to save some money and put up another Chase Branch...If his job is powerless in passing city laws than he speaks to enough Brooklyn residents and functions as a lobbyist to get their complaints to City Hall..Thats worth 150K in my book..
