Shot Goose On The Loose In Prospect Park

Yesterday morning a Canada goose was spotted around Prospect Park lake with an arrow, or dart, through its neck. This is sadly not very shocking considering the area has been plagued with animal injuries and deaths this year.

One parks official told the NY Times yesterday, “Our Urban Park Rangers report that they have been making attempts to catch the goose. It can fly and it keeps flying away from them. They are monitoring and will make other attempts to capture it. They do not know where the goose was shot or if it was by a cross bow or regular bow.”

The search was called off last night, and was scheduled to resume this morning. One bicyclist in the area, Cindy Juarbe, criticized that call, telling the Post, "They let animals get shot by arrows, and then not even look—that's just lazy." Harsh.

This morning a source told us that the goose "may have flown off, but many people are on the lookout throughout the area trying to locate it." We're waiting for an update from the Parks Department and will update when we hear back. Maybe they're out questioning Bloomberg?
