Trader Joe's Is Hub of Brooklyn Crime

061610traderjoes.jpg A thief has struck again at the Court Street Trader Joe's on Friday, nabbing a wallet from a woman's unattended purse that she left in her shopping cart. The woman didn't notice her wallet was missing until she went to check out. Last month, police caught a thief in a sting operation after multiple reports of stolen purses from that location. But the next day a thief stole a man's wallet from atop his stroller in the same store. So, can this finally be the incident that teaches people to keep an eye on their stuff in public, or at least when shopping at the crime-ridden hellhole that is Trader Joe's?

    shouldn't that headline read:

"Trader Joe's is Hub of Brooklyn Crime (Affecting Willfully Ignorant High-Income Earners that Mean More to the News Cycle Than Poor Non-Whites)"

  • isla

Here's an idea. Watch your stuff.

What dumbass leaves their wallet unattended in a busy store? You are asking to be robbed.

  • Cannibal

He should be grateful that his kid wasn't stolen while left unattended, too. What is wrong with people?

  • Hello, Brooklyn.

  • lindzani9

Pretty sure it is because the influx of yuppies into the area are oblivious to everything around them and think that the area is safe so they don't have to watch over there stuff. "a thief stole a man's wallet from atop his stroller." Really? Who leaves their wallet out like that? Perhaps these people should be a bit more diligent in ensuring their things are safe and stop assuming no one will steal it. It may be Bloomberg's NYC now but not everything from the past is gone.

  • Wza

    Bingo.

  • Ritchie

It's barely a crime in NY to take a wallet when a silly shopper has ditched it to go look at the new frozen appetizers.

  • isla

    hahahahahahahaha.

If not in place already, (i dont shop there) there needs to be a sign upon entering the store in large font advising patrons to secure valuables and warn against potential pickpockets and thieves. Signs such as these are found at places like Versailles, and they work.

Why stop there? They should also have a sign that warns people not to jam the food products in their eyes, a reminder to breathe, and to not take off your clothes and enter the freezer bins. Otherwise, how would people know?

  • These folks need to understand they aren't in Ohio any longer... One can't just leave wallets and handbags unattended and think that they are in the clear.

  • SFNY

Seems like the victims are too oblivious to see or too dumb to read such a sign.

  • Wza

    Come on!

    Should be common sense.

  • JMH

The headline should read "Trader Joe's Is Hub Of Brooklyn Stupid People Who Don't Know Not To Leave Their Belongings Lying Around Unattended".

  • isla

    Exactly!

    It's a hub for idiots.

  • poetofsorts

This is what I don't understand. i don't care where you are or what store you're in but why would you leave your bag in the shopping cart unattended. Why leave your wallet in your shopping cart unattended? You're bascially saying "please take my stuff. thank you." I just can't wrap my head around it. Maybe somewhere in Idaho this is okay...but this is NY. Shifty people are everywhere.
