Roof Raff Cause Rift In Williamsburg Building

This is why you can't have anything nice, Williamsburg. Seems the residents at 132 North 5th Street (at the corner of Bedford) are all doing their part in keeping the common roof space a catastrophic mess. An inside source tells us emails are frequently sent from building management, which it seems someone is posting on this blog. And now residents have turned on each other! Offline accusations (read: the flyer after the jump) were posted on every floor of the building after a party this weekend.

Things have been pretty quiet since last summer, when someone described the roof to Curbed as "one of the most notorious shitshows in Williamsburg." Trouble started again this Memorial Day weekend, when management said, "Due to the lack of responsibility of some people in the building... we’re left with no choice other then to banned [sic] all parties inside the building & on the roof top. If the message won’t be clear enough, we will have to lock the roof top all times!"

So basically there are three outcomes here: the roof gets locked, the roof eventually caves in from the weight of the trash, or a civil war breaks out amongst residents and winner takes all.

My question is, Ok so the landlord hooked up the roof for the tenants to enjoy . So the tenants say thank you by leaving all that trash all over the place ? The question is , Why would those tenants want to live with trash above there heads , Instead of below their feet !?

our landlord stopped everyone from going on the roof those nice plastic chairs and tables started putting holes in the roof and people got leaks in their apartments .plus there was garbage no one cleaned up. he installed one of the alarm doors if you push the door to open it this loud alarm goes off and will not shut off till the super feels like climbing 6 stories to shut it off or if he is away for the day you have to listen to the alarm all day .you are not a favorite with the neighborsif go up there .because no one in our building or next door can hear anything in there apartments becaue the alarm is so loud.this usually happens to new tenants because the landlord does not warn them .

Years ago (early 90s?) I went to one of these shindigs and I still remember, I thought the roof was going to cave in under our feet. Not to be a spoilsport but I think that having 100 people up on the roof of a decrepit old factory is a fairly poor idea.

Lotsa folks don't care about being rude and disgusting. This kinda thing got the roof in my building closed to the tenants. One young knucklehead boozing, noising, and tagging with his friends every night ruined it for all. All it takes is one drunken idiot to fall & impale himself or worse, the owner gets nailed, many problems. My crew partied in my parent's backyard many moons ago, were always welcome. But the rules: Nothing loud enough to disturb the neighbors, everything gets put back where it was, garbage gets bagged & goes at the curb, and there better not be even a bottlecap on the ground in the AM. Should be very interesting to see what happens when slobs like this age (I will not use the term mature or grow up). We'll probably be paying for their Methadone. Some folks don't deserve nice things.
