Paterson Doesn't Think A Budget Will Be Passed Soon

2009_10_dpater.jpg The State Senate and Assembly may think they are close to a budget, but Governor Paterson said on the radio this morning, "I think we'll have to do it again next week." "It" being the whole "threatening a government shutdown" thing, because the Legislature is still 76 days late on delivering a budget. The Daily News reports, "The permanent state budget is now 76 days overdue. Lawmakers are battling Paterson over closing a $9.2 billion spending gap." Paterson's wish: "I just want to see a balanced budget pass and I don't want to see it encumber the next administration, as I'm leaving at the end of the year, or the next generation that will inherit the debt that they will unless we act and act now."

Paterson is showing more balls throughout this ordeal than 99% of our politicians.

This is why I'm thankful states aren't allowed to carry deficits. It forces them to make the tough choices NOW, instead of putting it off until there's a bigger crisis.

  • Why are Albany politicians so incompetent that they can't pass a balanced budget two and a half months past their deadline? Imagine if their constituents were similarly incompetent at their jobs and late for their deadlines.

Do we think they'll pass the budget before, you know, the next election?

I personally will be voting against my incumbent representatives. I encourage others to do the same.
