Stuyvesant Seniors Want To Tap That

060810chose.jpg To be filed under "Kids These Days": Instead of "Most Likely to Succeed" or even "Most Popular," Stuyvesant High School seniors created a display of classmates under headings such as "Biddies," "Hotties" and "I'd Tap That." The Post reports that the seniors were "encouraged to create displays listing classmates they considered the sexiest" by the administration, which has let students post an annual "crush list" for over ten years. But did they finally go too far?

One senior said, "The administration doesn't seem to care at all. I think everyone finds it amusing—and it's completely harmless," but admitted he didn't participate because he doesn't "kiss and tell." A few others didn't feel like admitting wanting to tap anyone, with one girl saying, "It's a little bit awkward to say, 'I'd tap that,' about a boy you like." She chose to label her crushes as "hotties."

Though the administration let the students' sexual desires stay on display, one teacher says they should have done a once-over on the titles before they went up. The 'I'd tap that' category, I would definitely get rid of that. To me, that's what social-networking sites like MySpace and Twitter are for. High school is not the place for that." But it's for serious cuddling, right? For anyone who missed out, the Post explains that "I'd tap that" is "slang for wanting to have sex with someone." That's right, our city's teenagers want to have sex. Good heavens, they're probably drinking too!

Just for fun, they should only list all their dark crushes.

You'd think these guys never went to high school. Seniors only have a handful of days left in their high school lives. After surviving four years at Stuy, they deserve to have a little fun. Stop being such pricks about a little high school humor.

"That's right, our city's teenagers want to have sex."

I really, really can't tell if this is sarcastic or not. It's just too bloody obvious to not be. But the alarmist tone of this passage makes me wonder.

As a recent Stuyvesant alum, I'm bemused and a little surprised by all the press over this. Crushlists were and still are a way for seniors to have some fun at the end of their last year and admit (sometimes hilariously and creatively) their crushes over the past four years. They aren't literal requests for sex, but simply a way for students to admit the crush they had on that person in their English class during Freshman Year, for instance. This is being blown entirely out of proportion.

Stuy kids have been having sex, and writing lewd things on their crush lists, probably since the school went co-ed. i cannot believe this is news. but i am sort of proud, as an alumnus, of all the sex press Stuy constantly gets, because every kid there either gets very laid, or has no idea what to even do with such an opportunity.

Let me get this straight, Stuy is considered one of the top public HS' in NYC. You need to ace a standardized test with a number of other prospective students to win acceptance to this very limited school.

    Just making sure.

  • really!?!?

Based on the title I thought the post would be about StyTown. That would have been a much more interesting article.

  • mingum

    So did I!

I remember how amazed I was when I realized that all the kids who used to play Magic the Gathering outside the library on the 6th floor were actually having sex with each other. Like WTF. "Oh, yeah, baby. Let me swim in your pool of mana." All those speech and debate dweebs, too. They didn't learn all that fast talking for nothing. At least there were some normal, group sex, weed smoking kids at stuy... but really, all teenagers bone. These kids are just more likely to use condoms.

    Whatever. Why is this news?

The Typical Stuy kid wants to bang this

  • Guest

That girl is hot! They didn't make hot nerdy girls back in my day.

  • Kojak

Hmm. maybe I should've used another example

  • Just how handy DID you have that example?

  • Kojak

Its good to have a few cute nerd female links nearby for some reason. Cosplay works too

  • Guest

    Yeah, probably.

  • I bet they did, you just weren't looking.

  • Guest

No, I looked. I hung out with all of the drama club and goths and comic book geeks and D&D peeps. Come to think of it, some of the goths were hot, but they were only into guys that wore as much makeup as they did.

And, like you, I am also an attractive nerdy guy. I got lucky and found my nerdy girl counterpart, although she's more indie than nerdy, but anyway.

  • Same difference! Indie, geeky, music, minis.

  • Typical Stuy kid has good effing taste.

  • Kojak

True, but talk about raising the bar where one cannot reach

  • I have a vested interest in saying that attractive nerdy guys also exist. Because I am.
