Track Fire Traps J Train in Queens

060610jtrain.jpg Hundreds of riders had to be rescued from a J train near the Sutphin Boulevard station when a track fire stranded the train. A mechanical failure reportedly sparked two small fires, forcing many passengers to climb out of the car and walk along the tracks to the above ground 121st Street station before firefighters arrived. So which is worse, putting yourself in danger walking along the tracks, or waiting hours in a subway on a humid day for firefighters to pry you out?

Fire no doubt started by litter on the tracks.

Maybe instead of ticketing pregnant women sitting down on staircases while waiting for trains or people who just put their shopping bag on the seat next to them on an empty car at 1:00 am, the cops could try busting people who toss their garbage on the floor.

    Just a suggestion.

How exactly are you putting yourself in danger by walking along tracks on which service has been shut down?

The tracks are elevated. I would not want to walk along ancient tracks that are a good 25 feet above ground. Nope, no thanks
