George W. Bush Says He'd Waterboard KSM Again

2010_05_gwbush.jpg Former President George W. Bush told the Economic Club of Grand Rapids, Michigan yesterday, "Yeah, we waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. I'd do it again to save lives." The Al Qaeda operative may be tried in New York City on terror charges... or the Obama Administration might choose a military tribunal.

Bush also touched upon the Iraq war in his speech, saying taking out Saddam Hussein "was the right thing to do and the world is a better place without him." As for his thoughts on President Obama, Bush is mum, "You are not going to see me in the public square criticising the president."

In other Bush news, the 43rd President joined Facebook and Twitter. His Facebook profile page has links to pre-order his upcoming memoir and to donate to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund—plus his latest status is a shout-out to wife Laura's memoir, noting it's been" #1 on the 'New York Times' Bestseller List for the third consecutive week." Hey, the liberal media is convenient for bookcounting, we guess.

I miss GWB, Its pretty simple, he fought the bad guys (terrorists) and protected the good guys (US and people like us). He always did what he said he would do and he accepted responsibility for his actions. I also agree with his policies and to the extent that they followed conservative principles they were successful. When he abandoned or was pushed away from them he was less successful. The people that we fought and are fighting are serious about getting rid of all of us, and if they have there way, the first to go would be the whining voices on this page. You people are 180 deg out of phase, ass backwards, totally upside down, but we might succeed inspite of you

    Aw, are you lost?

"I'd do it again to save lives."

That argument might be a bit defensible, if only there were a shred of evidence that the practice saved even one life.

  • whitecastlerock

George Bush is so 2008. What does this have to do with New York? More bike lane stories please.

Mind your tongue libs! You're looking at, next to Sarah Palin, the World's Greatest American (WGA).

taking out Saddam Hussein "was the right thing to do and the world is a better place without him."

Note he no longer even pretends that it was because of WMD's. Asshole.

bush now branding himself as a lifesaver. now we've heard it all.

I won't shed a tear for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed but remember if we torture them then we cannot claim to be any better than them and certainly cannot complain when our soldiers are captured and tortured as well.

And I am patiently waiting for the evidence on what information these torture methods unveiled and how many lives were saved as a result, as Bush claims.

I am not against torturing them for their sake, I am against the torturing of all POWs for the sake of our own soldiers. I remember early in Bush's first term when China downed our spy plane and they paraded our soldiers in front of news cameras how appalled most Americans were, and rightfully so, but if next time they are tortured using our own techniques can we be upset, if we set the precedent?

If we do not want our own soldiers to be tortured we cannot torture others, it's simple.

And in case you dont realize it yet, people want aggresive tactics. Its only you whiny weak ass liberals who ring you hands over these assholes.

Xmas day bomber-Hmmm, they took so much shit they are changing interrogation policies. Why is that?

TSQ- No Bloomberg, it wasnt someone who disliked the health care bill, and no Big Sis, it wasnt a 'one off'.

  • used_up_shoe

You mean the christmas day bomber who sang like a diva and spilled everything under legal methods of interrogation? Yeah, that was sure a debacle.

  • hotstepper

what people want "aggressive" (aka illegal) tactics?

for such a tough conservative alphadog you appear to be quite frightened. why else would you so willingly sacrifice the American liberties you seem to champion?

  • Spirit of 76

I'm sure ides_of_march would agree wholeheartedly with rolltide, but he seems to have abandoned Gothamist.

ol' boy seems to love his watersports. i'd give Bush a hot steamy goldenshower.

Despite whatever you thought about Ronald Reagan or George H.W. Bush, or any other political leader for that matter, there has never been more of an empty suit in the White House than George W. Bush. He was not at all equipped to hold that office and in fact was never legitimately elected to the White House.

As for water boarding Khalid Sheik Mohammed, I don't see how that has helped the effort against Al Qaeda. He confessed to everything short of starting the Great Chicago Fire, and I believe the record will show we've gained better intelligence through other means.

If "nuclear" is spelled right in the book, you know he didn't write it.

I was thinking that if there aren't constant Bushisms in his Twitter feed, then it's obvious somebody else is posting on his behalf.

  • JenChungsBaby

I'm sure the Economic Club of Grand Rapids was fawning all over him.

  • John L

If Bush had any self-respect he'd apologize to the American people and go hide somewhere.
