Warmest Spring Ever

springtemps.jpg

Combine the fourth warmest March, warmest April and tenth warmest (sort of, the Weather Service has a unique way of counting ties) May and you get the warmest spring ever recorded in Central Park. The three-month average temperature of 57.1 degrees was 4.7 degrees above normal, nearly a degree warmer than second place 1991 and nearly thirteen degrees higher than the bone-chilling spring of 1888. The first five months of 2010 have been the sixth warmest start to a year.

The warm trend looks like it will continue well into June. We'll see a high in the mid 80s this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. A weak cold will approach the area tomorrow night. Ahead of the front we'll see temperatures in the upper 80s tomorrow and plenty of humidity. The front is going to take its sweet time getting here so there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms from Thursday afternoon through Friday, with the best shot being Thursday night. Friday's high will return to the mid 80s.

Unsettled weather will last through the weekend as the cold front and a weak high pressure system trying to replace it battle to a draw. Saturday and Sunday are expected to have a mix of sun, clouds and showers with highs in the low 80s.

More air conditioner exhaust and urban sprawl doesn't help.

Here's hoping the warmest spring ever transitions nicely into the coolest summer ever. We've already used our A/C too much this year!

From Seattle? Yeah. I'm sure she could probably handle a scattered shower.

So, if your sister was going to be visiting from Seattle this weekend, would you dare the "scattered showers" and take her on a boat ride Sunday afternoon down the East River?

Just don't tell her it is a week before the anniversary of the General Slocum disaster.

Oh no! We were hoping for a nice church picnic too!
